Just For Fun: 9 of The Worst Fall 2025 Fashion Trends for Women Over 50

As much as we love to report on the best trends of the season, it’s equally important to highlight a few you may want to skip. Here is a list of some of the worst fall 2025 fashion trends. Some of these trends are not just unflattering for women over 50—they’re questionable for women of any age!

We know many runway looks are meant as artistic statements rather than everyday wear. Fashion week is often about drama, fantasy and storytelling. Still, some of these designs are downright impractical, bizarre or just plain unappealing. And surprisingly, some of the biggest names in fashion are guilty of showing the worst of the worst (often more than once).

So, take a look and enjoy a lighthearted look at 9 of the most cringe-worthy and silly fall 2025 trends.

1. Peplums Gone Awry

Women over 50 usually love a good peplum. It creates a soft hourglass shape, highlights the waist, and gives a little hip coverage. But this season’s versions? Misplaced, exaggerated and totally unflattering. Who wants extra pouf right in the middle of the stomach? Not us.

2. Car Wash Skirts

Even in luxe fabrics, the car wash skirt feels dated and cheap. It’s not the most unwearable look ever, but let’s just say it leans tacky—especially when styled over fur hot pants (yes, see above left).

3. Floor Mopping Hems

We love a sweeping maxi dress or gown, but dragging fabric across dirty city streets? (And the Valentino show was set up to look like a public restroom – Ew!) No thank you. In fall weather with rain, leaves, or even slush, these hems don’t stand a chance. Instant wardrobe ruin.

4. No Skirt, Just Fringe

Forget the “no-pants” look—this season it’s “no-skirt, just fringe.” It’s a logistical nightmare (how does one sit?) Time to move on. And aren’t we tired of these fettuccine looks?

5. Clunky Shoes with Crew Socks

Comfortable? Maybe. Chic? Absolutely not. Pairing thick crew socks with clunky flats or loafers instantly downgrades an otherwise stylish look. It’s the kind of trend we’d regret in photos years from now.

6. Over-Powered Shoulders

A little power shoulder is fabulous—but when they’re so exaggerated you can’t fit through a doorway (or sit comfortably at dinner), it’s overkill. These looks are overpowering.

7. Leotards with Heels

When women go out they usually think, “Oh OK, I’ll just wear my long sleeve leotard with heels and add some jewelry.” Wrong! This is not a good look for the street. And the leopard print chaps don’t make it any better.

8. Logo-Emblazoned Apparel

We all know which brand we’re watching when sitting at a Givenchy or Dior show. Do we really need the logos plastered all over the clothes too? Logo-heavy apparel feels more “mall store” than luxury.

8. Hip Waders

When accessories take over the outfit, it’s usually not a good sign. Case in point: hip-high scrunch boots that look more like fishing gear than fashion. I’m sure they’re really comfortable too… not!
