7 Of The Worst Spring/Summer 2026 Fashion Trends For Women To Avoid

Fashion and runway trends can be artful, inspiring and sometimes a little outrageous. That’s why we like taking a look at the “worst” fashion trends of each season, mostly because its so entertaining. There are some really crazy and laughable trends out there!

We never want to tell you what to wear or how you should or shouldn’t dress, but when it comes to the more extreme spring/summer 2026 trends, there are some you will want to avoid. In fact you probably wouldn’t even consider them anyway. But it’s still fun to see what was shown on the runways and take a look at some of the most extreme (and questionable) looks from the top fashion designers.

The Worst Spring/Summer 2026 Fashion Trends

Here are my selections of 7 of the worst Spring/Summer 2026 fashion trends for women over 50, or really, for any age.

1. Extreme Low-Slung Waistlines

Seen at: Christopher Esber, McQueen, Schiaparelli

Just when we finally got used to high waists, designers have gone in the opposite direction. Midriff-baring, super low-slung pants and skirts appeared on many of the spring/summer 2026 runways. How low can you go? Even if you have fabulous abs, this is a trend to skip.

2. Tiny Bra Tops

Seen at: Prada, Kallmeyer, Tom Ford

It may have started as something worn under sheer fabrics for a little coverage, but now entire outfits are being styled around a tiny bra top. I don’t know, it just feels like something is missing. I think they call it a top.

Extreme Balloon Pants Seen at: Altuzarra, Ashlyn, Adam Lippes

3. Extreme Balloon Pants

I know I’m talking out of both sides of my mouth with this one. It’s true, I listed parachute dressing as one of the top trends for women over 50 for spring 2026. But these I Dream of Jeannie pants have landed on my worst trend list. They’re so easy to style the wrong way and suddenly you risk looking more costume or clownish than chic. Fly away, balloon pants. It’s NOT Hammer Time.

Gigantic Furry Handbags Seen at: Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten

4. Gigantic Furry Handbags

Seen at: Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten

A giant clutch may look chic on the runway, but do you think the models are actually carrying anything inside? The idea of lugging around a huge (and furry!) handbag in the spring and summer—filled with all the usual essentials—doesn’t exactly feel easy or breezy.

major Cutouts in Precarious Places Seen at: McQueen, Tom Ford, Sportmax

5. Major Cutouts in Precarious Places

Seen at: McQueen, Tom Ford, Sportmax

Every woman loves a cutout, right? Wrong! (The word can make us cringe.) This season’s dramatic slashes and cutouts are placed in the most precarious spots, just waiting for a wardrobe malfunction.

Just Panties Seen at: Simone Rocha, Chloé, Dries Van Noten

6. Just Panties

Seen at: Simone Rocha, Chloé, Dries Van Noten

Remember that store back in the ’70s called Just Pants? Well, I’m calling this trend Just Panties. What could be sillier than walking around town in a pair of embellished briefs? Styled and finished off with a heels, jewelry and a handbag. What?

Poufy and Strange Silhouettes Seen at: Comme des Garçons, Valentino, Thom Browne

7. Poufy and Strange Silhouettes

I’m saving the best, or maybe the worst – or at least the most entertaining – for last. I understand that designers are expressing artistry through fashion. But when you can’t even sit down or walk into a room without bumping into something, or someone, these sculptural silhouettes can actually be a hazard. And these proportions are just plain strange. Do you know anyone who wants to look blobby, distorted or resembling a stuffed potato?

That’s the fun of runway fashion. It doesn’t always have to be practical. Even if these Spring/Summer 2026 trends aren’t making it into our closets, they certainly gave us something to talk about.
