I love the look of leather. I used to think I had to wear real leather, but in recent years I have come around to faux leather. These black faux leather paper bag pants are very versatile and trendy too. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get the look either because faux leather is inexpensive. Trying new trends can be fun, and these pants are a great way to try a trendy new look, even if you are over 40. In fact, I put together three very different looks for you to try. Here’s how to wear faux leather pants sporty and casual, rock and roll style or dressy enough for a cocktail party.
Three Ways To Wear Faux Leather Paper Bag Pants
The Faux Leather Paper Bag Pants
Let’s start with the pants. I found these black Who What Wear™ Ankle Length Paper Bag Trousers at Target for $36.99. They also come in a pretty olive green and a caramel brown color if you prefer. They are “ankle pants” – I am 5’4″ and the model above is 5’10” so you should be able to figure out how long they will be on you.
I adore the large patch utility pockets and the loosely styled easy-to-wear tapered fit of these trousers. They are “machine washable and tumble dry” but I would hang them up to dry. After all they are made of polyurethane which could melt. These pants are comfortable but they do get a bit warm when you wear them after a while, so I do not recommend them for hot summer days or vigorous dancing. I own a few other pairs of faux leather pants and actually like the added warmth they give you in the cool weather.
Swap out your joggers or sweats with faux leather paper bag trousers. Tuck in a bold colored thin v-neck sweater or French tuck it in the front. You may think a slouchy sweater doesn’t work with paper bag pants but it does because your waist is defined! Wear your favorite old school sneakers (I’m wearing white Puma’s), grab your sunglasses and you are good to go! This super sporty look is perfect for running errands any day of the week or for attending your kid’s sporting event. The leather look pants take a casual look to the next level.
Rock and Roll Style
Wear these pants with your favorite graphic concert tee (mine is vintage Led Zeppelin) and pair of white zipper ankle booties. Top it off with a menswear style jacket. I didn’t want to wear all black so I went with a navy blue jacket. Don’t be afraid to wear navy blue with black! Coco Chanel did. This tonal look actually works. And why not carry a shimmery silver evening bag to the concert? Rock and roll and glitter go hand-in-hand. Wear this outfit to a music event or just to your local bar.

Marc Fisher Ltd Vincent Bootie, $198.95
Cocktail Party Look
A blouse with billowing sleeves tucks into theses pants beautifully. Swap out the tie sash for a gold metallic belt to define your waistline. Slip on a pair of pointy-toe pumps with an elongated toe. This shoe silhouette is back in style again, so if you are like me, you may have saved a pair. This look is dressy enough for a cocktail party or dinner event. With these heels I may have to find a chair at the party but I will make a good entrance!
