When I travel, I like to feel comfortable on the plane (train or automobile) and pack light! I have a trip to Florida coming up in April, so I put together a versatile travel outfit for women over 50 and I styled it both high-end and low-priced. These pieces will work well when you are in transit, but they also serve other purposes. Each can be worn during your vacation again and in very different ways. This way you can pack light because you are already wearing many of the pieces with this travel outfit idea.
Versatile Travel Outfit for Women Over 50
Here is a comfortable, stylish and sophisticated travel outfit for women over 50. It is casual yet still polished. There’s no need to look like a slob when you travel!

The Tropical Print Blouse
An easy to wear oversized blouse in cotton or a light fabric can go from the plane to the beach. This light cotton Culthera Que Culhera Blouse for $310 in a tropical print is ideal! Wear it over a tank when you travel and over your swimsuit as a beach or pool coverup once you get to your destination. Since you may want to spend less and save the money for your trip, you can find other options at Amazon. You may like this Astylish Women 2024 Loose V-Neck Shirt in a fun fruit print for only $24.99.
Easy Drawstring Pants
Upscale track pants are the way to go when you are sitting for long hours on a plane. And (of course) you can wear them again on your vacation to work out, lounge around or even to sleep in. These Adidas Originals + Y-3 lyocell-blend twill pants fit the bill for $330. However a lower bill to pay would be for these Mango Drawstring Waist Flowy Pants for only $49.99.
A Navy Blazer
Ahoy mates! Adding another vacation cliche to this travel outfit is a crisp navy blue blazer with gold buttons. This amazing Max Mara Studio Tatiana Double-Breasted Pick Stitch Blazer for $895 is an investment piece that will live in your closet for decades. It will look fabulous with white pants or jeans for a dressier look on your vacation and come in handy if the weather gets chilly. For a much smaller investment this Lands’ End School Uniform Women’s Hopsack Blazer is $163.95. It will serve the same purpose, even though it only has half of the gold buttons (it’s single breasted).
Classic White Sneakers
A pair of white sneakers that aren’t too clunky are ideal for vacation. You can wear them for site-seeing, shopping or even a quick workout. You can go super-chic with these Alaia x Superga Fishnet Lace-Up Sneakers for $650. Fishnet is a huge trend for spring and summer 2024. But you can also skip the trend part (and the designer part) and go with these Superga 2750 Cotu Classic Sneakers for $70
The Nylon Tote Bag
The perfect carry-on bag is one that you can use again at the beach or for site-seeing on your vacation. Something roomy to stash a jacket, your suncreen or your souvenirs that is lightweight is essential. A classic Longchamp Large Le Pliage Tote for $155 is perfect in a color like this sage green. Or you can save about $100 with this green DORIS&JACKY Tote Bag from Amazon for only $55.99.
Dark Square Sunglasses
Don’t forget to bring your shades! It’s very important to protect your eyes, and besides you can look like a movie star. Wear them around town or when you don’t want to wear eye-makeup! These Prada 57mm Gradient Square Sunglasses for $605 are the bomb. But if you are afraid you may loose them, these Le Specs Shmood 52mm Rectangular Sunglasses for $65 are the spitting image.
Versatile Travel Outfit Styling Tips
- Wear it again! Consider how you can wear each piece for your travel outfit again on your trip. I gave you examples of the multiple uses of each piece in my travel outfit such as the blouse on the plane and as a beach cover up later.
- Mix it up. Don’t be afraid to mix up your styles a bit. Sporty pieces such as a pair of track pants or joggers can work under a conservative blazer, or wear a pair of sneakers with a dress.
- Go High Low. Mix up designer pieces (or even just one) with lower priced items and no one will know if you are wearing all designer or not. Maybe you won’t loose those Prada sunglasses after all!
