1. Basic Black
What woman over 50 doesn’t love basic black? You can’t go wrong with this basic black GAP Organic Cotton Big Shirt for $47. It’s a lightweight button down shirt that is super versatile. Wear it with jeans, for evening with a sequin skirt, over a tank like a jacket or as a beach cover up.
2. Practically Sheer
There has been an over-abundance of sheer looks on the runways in recent years, but were were pleasantly surprised to see modestly sheer looks in the spring 2024 collections. We call it “practically sheer” because the looks were kind of sheer and indeed practical to wear because they have linings! This Connected Apparel Chiffon Overlay Fit & Flare Dress for $89 will make a wonderful addition to your wardrobe for special occasions.
3. Statement Belts
A belt always makes you look more pulled together and we adored the statement belts shown on the Spring 2024 runways. This Sam Edelman Imitation Pearl Logo Plaque Belt for $60 will accent everything from a basic black dress, or a white shirt and faded denim jeans. The pearl detail lightens up your outfits this season.
4. Sporty Cool
Top designers showed chic looks with sleek sportswear. This Adidas Tiro Cotton Track Jacket for $75 is ideal. Try it with a t-shirt and trousers for work, or over a floral dress. You can get the Gucci runway look when you wear this jacket with a leather or faux leather pencil skirt and heels.
5. Tied In Knots
Another top trend for spring is to tie your cardigan over your shoulders or around your waist in a casual knot. You can do that with a sweater set you already own. Or you can get the same casual vibe with a knot that is already built-in like this Karen Kane Tie Hem Boat Neck Top for $98.
6. Pretty Volume
Big shirts and oversized looks can be overwhelming but fashion designers took the volume down a notch and offered looks that were very pretty! Look for billowing sleeves or dresses or coats that you can cinch at the waist. Try an oversized coat like this H&M Twill Trench for $74.99 and add a bit of flowy and pretty volume over everything you wear this spring.
7. Shiny Coats
Shiny satin and embellished overcoats added lady-like chic to many of the runway collections. This Express Satin Belted Trench Coat for $248 is totally on-trend. I know, it is over $100, but it will give you the look for a lot less than a designer coat.
8. Major Metallics
Head-to-toe gleaming mirror and foil metallic fashion pieces were spotted on many of the runways. We recommend wearing only one piece at a time so you don’t look like you just landed on the moon. Try a pair of metallic jeans, a blouse or top or (easier yet) add an accessory like this shiny silver Mango Metallic Faux Leather Shoulder Bag for $49.99.
9. Contrasting Styles
Designers showed us unique looks in contrasting styles for Spring 2024. For example, they mixed preppy looks with ruffles, structured denim with dainty florals appliques, and menswear stripes with sequins. You can style your outfits with similar mix-ups, or try this CeCe Contrast Trim Short Sleeve Polo Sweater for $79. It mixes up a sporty polo with girly ruffles and pearl buttons all in one piece.
