I must admit, I’m getting excited. The temperatures are dropping slowly and the evenings are getting crisp. I can literally smell fall coming! I know I’m not the only one out there to admit it, but fall is my favorite season. The foliage it beautiful, I love a spiced beverage, and fashion is anew with trends. This month’s wearable trend has been slowly making a comeback and in 2017 it has rounded the corner with a boom! Velvet is coming and it’s lush, lavish, looks expensive (even though it doesn’t have to be) and will keep you warm on those chilly nights.
The Velvet Trend
Velvet has made returned in a very modern way. It’s no longer associated with angst-y 1990s teenagers, but is now synonymous with luxury, class and high end style. For FW 2017, velvet has graced the runways of big fashion houses like Gucci and Prada and has also trickled down to retailers like Topshop and Banana Republic. This means, it’s not only beautiful, but attainable. The luscious, high-pile fabric can be created from the most luxurious fibers like silk or linen or it can be made from blends with rayon, polyester or nylon. Regardless of the fibers, the feel is soft, the fabric looks rich and once you put it on it keeps you nice and cozy. So now let’s get to the fun part…
How To Wear Velvet
Finding the right velvet piece for you is easy because you can aquire literally any kind of piece in velvet. I’m the adventurous type, so bring on the velvet wide leg pants, blazers and shirts! However, I know many women who need to take baby steps, so finding little pops of velvet to incorporate into your outfit is definitely an easy feat If you’re the subtle type, keep it business as usual with one of your favorite outfits and then add a punch with a bold accessory like this The Row red velvet tote bag; bonus points because it represents the velvet trend and a bright color for added attention!

Now, if you are anything like me and want to swath yourself in velvet (a la’ George Costanza for all of the other Seinfeld fans!), there’s no such thing as taking this trend too far. I’d jump over any hurdle necessary to wear this Nicholas velvet jumpsuit and could run these Christian Louboutin velvet booties into the ground from wear. But whatever your preference, don’t get left in the fashion dust this fall; go get some velvet!
