Dolce & Gabbana Fined $440 Million
Italy’s Tax Commission has fined designers Dolce & Gabbana 343.4 million euros, or $440.2 million, plus interest. The designers may still avoid the fine if they decide to appeal and wait for a third degree sentence. The fine by the Tax Commission is separate from the ongoing trial in Milan, but both are from the same accusations by Italy’s Internal Revenue Agency. Dolce and Gabbana are accused of omitted and unfaithful earnings declarations and continue to deny the charges.
The Italian designers were charged with alleged tax evasion totaling 416 million euros, or $533.2 million. The evasion relates to the 2004 sale of the Dolce & Gabbana and D&G brands to the designers’ Luxembourg-based holding company, Gado Srl. The designing duo was originally absolved of the claims by a lower court in April 2011, but the Italian Supreme Court in November 2011 overturned that decision, stating it was a criminal offense.
Diane von Furstenberg Recovering From Skiing Accident
Diane von Furstenberg is recovering from an accident on the slopes. “I had a bad fall at the end of a day of skiing in Aspen,” she said via e-mail. “I broke my shoulder in three places. No surgery required. I am resting and mending in my house in L.A.”
This isn’t the first time the designer has sustained an injury from skiing. In winter 2011, she was hit by another skier who had lost control on the slopes. The accident also occurred in Aspen and the famed fashion designer broke her nose and had light facial fractures.
Lanvin Launches New Fragrance Called Me
Lanvin has unveiled its newest women’s scent, called Me. The fashion house’s creative director, Alber Elbaz, conceived the project with Lanvin’s fragrance licensee Inter Parfums SA. The perfume’s top notes include mandarin and blueberry, while in the middle there is tuberose and rose absolute. The base has notes of licorice wood and sandalwood. The packaging is adorable; Me’s bottle sports its own tiny diamond necklace.
The eau de parfum comes in 30, 50, and 80 ml. bottles, which will retail for $51.25, $79.60, and $102.50, respectively. The scent is available today in Europe and Asia and will soon be available here in the U.S., where the scent will first be carried exclusively at Nordstrom. The print ad for Me features model Iselin Steiro kissing her own reflection in a mirror.
