I must personally own at least 20 eyeshadow palettes (just ask my husband who rolls his eyes whenever I bring home a new one.) I always have the best of intentions to drain every color, but usually use maybe half and the rest sit untouched. Then the palette gets tossed to the land of ‘Misfit Makeup’ until I throw it away. What a waste. Now, for the first time I have found a palette of 5 shades that I use equally, and since I got my hands on it – EVERY DAY!
The 7 new Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes have been receiving rave reviews – for good reason. The palettes resemble oil-slicked art (hence the name Modernist?) and contain five colors that are completely blendable and mistake-proof.
The colors in each artist-inspired palette are pressed into a continuous 3D mold using an innovative technique and therefore offers advanced blending and artistry. Every shade and finish (from matte to shimmer) is specifically calibrated to work with and blend with the other formulas within the palette. Since the colors can be used wet and dry and for the base, crease and eyeliner there are endless looks you can create – from subtle to dramatic.
At a recent launch event for Modernist here in NYC, Hourglass founder and CEO, Carisa Janes explained to me “It took years for these palettes of finely-milled, long-wearing shadows to be perfected. I wanted to curate a collection of eye shadows with a versatile, continuous spectrum – much like an artist’s palette.” The shimmer shades, she explained, are more dramatic if applied wet. I couldn’t wait to try one myself. I initially thought I would chose the Infinity palette because it’s comprised of my usual favorites – warm neutrals. However, I was encouraged to try the Color Field (Olive) palette containing warm ivory, champagne gold, taupe brown, golden olive and forest green. Since my eyes are hazel I tend to avoid olives. I’m so thankful I tried something new, because I am now obsessed and the compliments I have received on my new look don’t hurt either. I have even been applying the golden olive to my lids wet and using the forest green as eyeliner for a dramatic evening look. The colors blend so effortlessly, it’s impossible to mess up. Oh and I’ve been using ALL the colors equally…a first!
