The 2015 CFDA Awards: The Good, Bad And Hideous

CFDA-Fashion Now we know why the Critics Choice Awards didn’t have so many A-listers. They were all preparing for the CFDA Awards the following night! [Ed. note: Except for Taraji P. Henson who is literally everywhere right now and made appearances at both events.] One of fashion’s biggest nights, the Council of Fashion Designers Awards (CFDA) not only gave out awards to noteworthy designers and icons such as the Olsen twins, Pharrell, and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, but it also brought out the big stars (Kim Kardashian fresh off her second pregnancy announcement) and the fashion risk-takers who decided CFDA Awards night is the night to go all out (did you see TK’s TK?) But while there were some top notch outfits, there were also some surprises. In other words, key A-listers in the Worst Dressed category. Let’s see who made the Best and Worst Dressed lists.

BEST DRESSED

Juliette Lewis, CFDA, Christian Siriano
Juliette Lewis in Christian Siriano
Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen her looking this good at an event in a long time – or maybe it’s the dress! Juliette Lewis completely wowed me last night in this white feathered Christian Siriano number. Sure, feather was a trend that evening (ahem, Nina Dobrev!) but Siriano pulled out all the stops here.
Nina Dobrev, CFDA Awards, Lela Rose
Nina Dobrev in Lela Rose
Speaking of Nina Dobrev, she looked lovely, too in Lela Rose, but she didn’t wow like Juliette!
Janelle Monae, Tadashi Shoji< CFDA Awards 2015
Janelle Monae in Tadashi Shoji
Forgoing her typical menswearish looks for a patterned motif, Janelle Monae really brought out her fashion prowess in Tadashi Shoji and made everyone around stand up and take notice.
Taraji P. Henson, Vera Wang
Taraji P. Henson in Vera Wang
The Vera Wang look here was by far better than her Critics Choice Awards look last night. This color is amazing on Taraji P. Henson, though I’m not a super fan of the straps.
Kelly Osbourne, Christian Siriano, CFDA 2015
Kelly Osbourne in Christian Siriano
Could Christian Siriano be turning into my new favorite designer? I just think the things he does with his red carpet looks are amazing. The fact that Kelly Osbourne doesn’t have to be overtly sexy to make a sexy statement and the use of sleeves in this gown (or is it a two-piece?) just makes me want to bow down to Siriano as a master of fashion.
Vanessa Hudgens, Sachin and Babi
Vanessa Hudgens in Sachin & Babi
Not the look that stole my breath away last night, but she’s outright gorgeous just the same. I’m just glad that Vanessa Hudgens is maturing in her red carpet looks and not forgoing the ladylike for her typical boho hippie attire. This Sachin & Babi gown was a winner.
Gigi Hadid, Michael Kors, CFDA Awards 2015
Gigi Hadid in Michael Kors
I don’t think just anyone could pull this look off, but Gigi Hadid‘s long stems make the gilded texture of this body-hugging Michael Kors jumpsuit totally appeal to me in a whole new way.
Katie Holmes, Olive Gree gown, Ralph Lauren Collection, CFDA 2015

Katie Holmes proves it isn’t always about the print. Simplicity at it’s finest courtesy of Ralph Lauren Collection.
Diane Kruger, Red Prabal Gurung Gowm, CFDA 2015
Diane Kruger in Prabal Gurung
I don’t see Diane Kruger in red very often, which makes this Prabal Gurung look all the more gorgeous to me. Not to mention she was one of few people who wore red on the red carpet last night.
Chrissy Teigen, Solace London
Chrissy Teigen in Solace London
We’ve seen this look before at awards shows. I really thought the sculpted top was going to become a trend this season as we saw so many stars wearing it in the past. Not so, say the fashion gods as no one else was seen in a look like this at the CFDA Awards. But that’s why Chrissy Teigen stands out in this Solace London gown, not to mention she does look very good.
Emmy Rossum, Dion Lee black dress, CFDA Awards 2015
Emmy Rossum in Dion Lee
What can I say about this Dion Lee look? Nice but nothing special? I do think Emmy Rossum‘s makeup really brings out her eyes and the clutch punches up the outfit just a bit. Did you see the backs of those shoes? You’ll have to look them up. They are edgy! I wouldn’t put it on a worst dressed list…
Michelle Monaghan, Monique Lhuillier, CFDA Awards 2015
Michelle Monaghan in Monique Lhuillier
Monique Lhuillier went all out geometric. This look is much more statement-making high fashion and a lot less ladylike demure, which we are more used to seeing from the designer. But I absolutely love the look of this gown and the way Michelle Monaghan pulls it off.
Amanda Seyfreid, Rodarte sheer dress
Amanda Seyfreid in Rodarte
I didn’t see a whole lot of multicolored ensembles at the CFDA Awards either – which is why I think Amanda Seyfreid stood out for me here in Rodarte. Is the marabou trim a nice touch? I’m not sure. Perhaps more celebs should have taken more risks like Amanda, though. In other words, risks that don’t flop as you’ll see in our Worst Dressed list.

WORST DRESSED

Kim Kardashian, Proenza Schouler
Kim Kardashian in Proenza Schouler
Sometimes Kim Kardashian totally nails it, and sometimes, she totally doesn’t (Let’s not rehash her Met Gala wallpaper gown)! This time, I’m not putting her on the worst dressed list because this look is sheer. (But honestly, why does Kim K always feel the need to show off what’s under her dress?) I’m putting her on the worst dressed list because there is too much going on with this Proenza Schouler dress. It’s not the right dress for her, but I’m not sure a less curvier person could pull it off either. The fur trim up top, the white buttons, the sheer factor, and yes, sadly, the fact that Kim Kardashian is going for sheer once again is nothing new and totally boring at this point. I hate this dress all around and she can do better. Second pregnancy, aside.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, CFDA
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
The fashion the Olsen Twins create is so good (enough to win Womenswear Designer of the Year, y’all) and yet their personal style is so predictable and boring. Enough already! Wow us please, girls!
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham
Again, we know it’s your personal style (and line), but Victoria Beckham is also boring and predictable. Even Angelina Jolie changes to a statement color once in a while!
Karlie Kloss, Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA
Karlie Kloss in Diane von Furstenberg
I know a few people liked this Diane von Furstenberg dress. I like that Karlie Kloss choose a standout print and short sleeve gown. But if you don’t have cleavage, don’t flaunt it like you do. There are other ways to cut a dress that will make you look like you have ample bust. In short, Karlie shouldn’t have worn a dress with such a low-cut scoop neck that does nothing for her beautiful body.
January Jones, J. Mendel, CFDA
January Jones in J. Mendel
You might disagree. Again, a lot of people liked this J. Mendel look on January Jones. I’m not sure why, but I found it too casual and even too predictable for such a high profile event. Butterfly top with high waist skirt, yes. Butterfly top with strangely cuffed pants over cut out shoes, no.
Julianna Margulies, Michael Kors, sheer gown
Julianna Margulies in Michael Kors
Julianna Margulies is not one to be overtly sexy, so there’s a chance the underwear thing might have been unintentional. If it was, I’m sorry for her. Still, this Michael Kors gown does nothing for her, me or anybody else. – Simona Kogan  Photos: eOnline, US Weekly

YES! I LOOK FORWARD TO #GROWINGYOUNGER
