Can A “Comfort” Shoe Really Be Stylish? At SAS, Yes!

San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) opened a Chicago area store last Friday at the St. James Crossing center in Westmont. Can you find stylish comfort shoes at SAS? After browsing their website I noticed many shoes that you may associate with your mom (or your grandmother) but if you are a good shopper (as I pride myself to be) you will find some very cute classic styles that are extremely well made and said to be super comfortable.  So I went to the grand opening to try them on and see for myself.

At the door they were handing out discount scratch off cards for a savings of $5, $50 or $100 off! But SAS already has many fans. The women I spoke to said they “have this loafer in every color” and “these are the most comfortable shoes” and “I can walk miles in these shoes.”

The service at SAS was outstanding and they will actually measure your feet. When was the last time you had your feet professionally measured? This is as important as bra fitting, because your feet change through the years and one foot may be a different then the other. I found out my one (bunion) foot is wider than the other so a C width worked best for me (all this time I thought I was a B, who isn’t a B?). And they actually carry the C width shoe! Now I can say firsthand the service, the fit and the quality of these shoes is outstanding for the price with most in the $100 to 150 range. SAS offers handbags in a variety of colors and fabric too.

So what are my favorite SAS shoes? The SAS Chloe slingbacks, the Metro loafers, the (perfect for standing all day) Moxie pumps and the Heather sandals.

I had the opportunity to ask Nancy Richardson, CEO of San Antonio Shoemakers a few questions.

SCS: Why did you choose this Chicago location for a store rather than downtown?

NR: SAS has a loyal customer following in the Westmont and Naperville areas that were underserved. We opened the Naperville location in April 2016. When the Westmont location came available, it was the perfect opportunity to connect with our customers and fill the need.

SCS: How do you manage to offer classic and new designs that are also comfortable shoes?

NR: We stay true to our roots by always delivering supremely comfortable shoes, top craftsmanship, and the best quality leathers and materials. To keep our customers on-trend we introduce updated leather colors and patterns to classic styles, as well as create new silhouettes to appeal to a broad range of customers.

SCS: The range of sizes offered at SAS is amazing. Is this how you give customers a custom fit without the custom price?

NR: We provide a wide range of sizes and widths, so the customer doesn’t have to sacrifice on comfort and fit. Offering 88 women’s sizes and 114 men’s is only part of how SAS delivers comfort. We have a dedicated design and development team that continuously brings innovation to the materials and manufacturing of SAS shoes.

SCS: I am impressed with your partnership with People’s Resource Center. Have you always made an effort to give back to communities?

NR: Giving back to our community is embedded in the company’s DNA. SAS has created the Comfort and Support Team consisting of employee volunteers ready to aid those in need when disaster strikes. Donations of shoes, socks, bags, belts, t-shirts, and perhaps most importantly, compassion are doled out. SAS is honored to add People’s Resource Center to the numerous national and local charitable foundations we have partnered with over the years.
