I realize we haven’t even had much of a chance to wear our fall fashion yet, but it’s already time to review the Spring 2027 collections that wrapped up earlier this month. I took a close look at the shows from Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris and, while everything is still fresh in my mind, put together a list of the trends I think women over 50 will like and actually wear. (We’ll be skipping the sheer skirts and bra tops!) And I’m thinking, if I like these trends, you will too, no matter your age.
I personally love spring. It’s my favorite season, and I love the freshness and carefree attitude that comes with spring fashion. There’s always something new to look forward to and the Spring 2027 collections are no exception.
This season brought us plenty of interesting textures, unique fabrics and fresh takes on silhouettes we’ve worn and loved for decades. The collections felt a bit like a fun boutique, with a mix of styles to suit different tastes. There was an emphasis on skirts and tops, dresses, easy-to-wear wide-leg pants and even culottes that looked chic. One-and-done looks, including jumpsuits and trench coats worn as dresses, offer an easy way to get dressed. Some dresses even had a 60s vibe, with mod turtlenecks and sleek styling.

The good news about fashion in recent years is that there are no real rules. It’s more about the freedom to wear what you want. The spring collections certainly offer that freedom, with something for everyone, from classic to romantic to modern. And if you’re over 50, you may already own some of these pieces. Still, it’s fun to follow the runway trends and pick up a few new styling ideas for the season ahead.
Here are 11 of my favorite trends from the Spring 2027 collections that stood out to me. Take a look, get a little inspiration and maybe start planning your wardrobe for the warmer weather. It will be here before you know it!
Spring 2027 Fashion Trends for Women Over 50
My top picks include gleaming gold, crinkled fabrics, curlicue ruffles, statement skirts, trench coats worn as dresses, 3D floral appliqués, shades of olive green, culottes, pinstripes, turtlenecks and white shoes. Let’s take a look!
1. Gleaming Gold Metallics
Seen at: Saint Laurent, Altuzarra, FFORME
Gold metallics were hard to miss on the Saint Laurent Spring 2027 runway, where the designer showed a variety of head-to-toe looks. Other designers embraced the gilded look, too. From hammered and textured finishes to shiny, rich gold hues, there are plenty of ways to wear this trend for spring. You don’t have to go head-to-toe gold to make a statement, either.
2. Crinkled and Wrinkled
Seen at: Alberta Ferretti, Marie Adam-Leenaerdt, Celine
This familiar fabric, which brings back memories of the 90s, looks especially fresh for Spring 2027. It’s light, airy and modern, and, heck, you don’t have to worry about ironing. What’s not to love?
3. Curlicue Ruffles and Hems
Seen at: Diotima, Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera
These whimsical, sculptural ruffles added a playful twist to the spring collections. Curlicue details decorated hems and necklines and even created a bit of peplum styling at the waist. It’s a fun way to add texture and interest without relying on prints or color.
4. Statement Skirts
Seen at: Prada, Chanel, Valentino
The Prada runway was all about the skirt again this season, with plenty of options to choose from. Think full skirts, printed skirts, satin skirts and pleated skirts. At Chanel, skirts looked snappy and modern, while Valentino showed how they can make a dressier statement. Whether you prefer casual or more polished, there’s a skirt for you this spring.
5. Trench Coats as Dresses
Seen at: Ulla Johnson, Hermès, Lanvin
This season, the trench coat is stepping out on its own. Designers added interesting details that make these coats more than just an extra layer. Worn buttoned up, a trench can become a dress in its own right. What an easy way to get dressed! Just button up your trench, add a great pair of shoes and you’re good to go.
6. 3D Floral Appliqués
Seen at: Loewe, Michael Kors Collection, Christian Dior
We’ve seen floral appliqués for spring before, but this season’s dimensional flowers, decorative details and rich textures were absolutely divine! These aren’t just ordinary floral prints. The raised embellishments give dresses and other pieces depth and make them feel special. It’s a romantic trend that can be as subtle or as dramatic as you like.
7. Shades of Olive Green
Seen at: Alaïa, Acne Studios, Tom Ford
Besides the usual black and white, olive green was used as a neutral and as a punch of color throughout the spring collections. I love how versatile this shade can be. It pairs beautifully with other neutrals but also brings a little color into your wardrobe without feeling too bold. Think of it as the color of leaves against spring flowers.
8. Chic Culottes
Seen at: Victoria Beckham, Monse, MSGM
I don’t usually like wearing shorts, but when they’re so full that they practically look like skirts, they’re totally chic. I hesitate to use the word culottes because it brings back some really bad retro memories, but today’s versions look fresh and modern. The secret is all in the styling. Pair them with a sleek top and the right shoes (like the sandals shown above), and they can be surprisingly flattering.
9. Gangster Stripes
Seen at: Lanvin, Ralph Lauren, Monse
Bold stripes were a big trend, but I especially liked the menswear-inspired pinstripes on the runway. These looks were anything but mannish. Pinstripes can feel tailored and polished while still being modern and feminine. Whether you choose a suit, trousers or another striped piece, this is a classic with a fresh attitude for spring.
10. The Mod Turtleneck
Seen at: Erdem, Prada, Roksanda
A black turtleneck is a classic power top, and I especially like the crisp contrast of one paired with spring fashion. Several designers also showed sleeveless dresses with turtleneck details, including a particularly striking look at Roksanda. Either way, the silhouette gives off a 60s vibe that feels both retro and modern.
11. White Shoes
Seen at: Jil Sander, Chloé, Michael Kors Collection
I always like to include an accessory trend, and I couldn’t help noticing something when I was putting together the looks for the floral appliqué trend: the models were wearing white shoes. Then I looked again, and white shoes seemed to pop up all over the runways. From sneakers to flats to sandals heels, white footwear is a fresh way to finish off your looks for spring 2027.
Would you wear any of these trends? Do you have a favorite for Spring 2027? We’d love to know!
