Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014: Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Amy Adams
Have the celebs learned from their experimental mishaps at the Golden Globes? It looks like the ones who wore trash bags (I’m talking about you, JLaw) suddenly cleaned up their act and looked utterly gorgeous on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this time around. While some of them dressed down, it seems like even the ones who oomphed it up with sequins or sparkle looked better than they did last time. Unfortunately, some of them continued to look bad. (We’ll get those later.) But for the rest, I applaud you for realizing what it takes to look amazing at an awards show.
I know many of them are holding their best for the Oscars coming up — I’m just hoping their best isn’t an experimental mess and instead, just a bit risque but downright glamorous all the same. Let’s take a look at the trends and celebs who made an impact on the red carpet at the SAGs.
The Navy
Whether gilded, sparkly, black-detailed or cut up, navy had a major moment at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on stars like Kelly Osbourne, Jennifer Garner, and Amy Adams. Jennifer Garner, Anna Gunn, and Mindy Kaling were nowhere to be found at the Golden Globes, Kelly Osbourne and Amy Adams both looked gorgeous and better than they did there. It seems like Amy Adams is slowly building up to beauty at the Oscars, if her Critics Choice and SAG Awards looks have anything to say about it. Only Julie Louis-Dreyfus went for more subtle, but it worked.
Best Dressed
Whether it was sparkly like Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, bright like Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci or streamlined like Elisabeth Moss in Michael Kors and Julia Roberts in a pink Valentino jumpsuit, these stars looked flawless tonight, even when they were something out of their element. (I’ve never seen Helen Mirren in that kind of dress before, but I feel like anything Helen Mirren wears is pure magic. And the slicked back hair killed it!) My picks for best dressed include: Sandra Bullock in Lanvin, Emilia Clarke in Calvin Klein Collection, and Lupita Nyong’o in that gorgeous Gucci.
The following stars stood out at the SAGs.
Candy Confection
These dresses were sweet and frothy and beautiful – so I just had to include them in their own category. Once again, Cate Blanchett did not wow me (I’m going to have some haters here, I know!) but I decided to put her in this category so I would not call her worst dressed. Hannah Simone and Elisabeth Rohm looked divine in sugary Marchesa. Kerry Washington, (well, I haven’t seen her wow us in a pregnant look yet) but I do like that she went a little risky with the sparkly Prada crop top and ball gown skirt.
Worst Dressed
OK, some of these were worse then others. I’m not a fan of the sheer or lace overlay on top of color (ahem, Mayim Bialik, Claire Danes, Amanda Peet) but some of these looks were chosen because I felt the stars could have dressed up more such as Mariah Carey, Meryl Streep, and Emma Thompson to name a few. Now you’re probably wondering why Malin Akerman in Naeem Khan is on the list. I have never put Naeem Khan on a worst dressed list because I love his dresses and he is an incredible designer, however I don’t like this dress.. It’s too glitzy, too over-the-top, too much going on, if that’s possible. And the color combination is all wrong.
Well, that’s all from me, folks.
