Whew, luckily some of the talent behind Barneys New York won't be out of work for long! WWD announced that Judy Collinson, former top women’s merchant at Barneys New York, has become executive director of women’s apparel at Anthropologie.

Collinson got scooped up by Urban Outfitters Inc., who runs Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters, Leifsdottir and Terrain and is preparing for a role “a little different from a traditional general merchandise manager,” says ceo Glen T. Senk. "The focus is more on the product itself, so design reports into her. She is responsible for every product in the overall women’s assortment including market products and products developed by Anthropologie.” If we could love Anthro more, it seems its about to happen.

Collinson worked at Barneys for 20 years, with her last role as executive vice president and gmm until last fall when she got pushed out as part of new ceo Mark Lee’s restructuring of the team. WWD predicts Collinson's transition to the new company will be a smooth one, citing her extensive experience and finely tuned eye for what appeals to their specific market. And her arrival couldn't have come soon enough, since Urban Outfitters has been struggling with poor sales due to a reported lack of fresh and current inventory across the various stores.

But Senk especially seems hopeful for the future with Collinson in it. “She will be fantastic. There is a lot for her to learn. Anthropologie is a very different business from Barneys,” Senk said. “But to have somebody with decades of experience and passion is just going to be fantastic for the company and the customers." We can't wait to see what she comes up with!
