Portrait of Madame X: Christian Siriano's Spin on the Painting

Christina Ricci's red carpet look

For those of you that didn’t get a chance to see any coverage of the red carpet at the MTV Awards, it was Christina Ricci’s little black dress that caught the attention of many. Designed by Christian Siriano, the dress was adorned with dozens of working Timex watches that were hand-sewn throughout the garment.
Siriano was inspired by the 1884 oil painting, titled The Portrait of Madame X. Many have discussed how this is the dress that tells time and has been published in the fashion glossy’s as a “genuine fashion moment in time.”

The antique buttons were hand-picked by Ricci and the back included details of clustering crystals, metal watch links, and gears. Other accessories, chosen by stylist Brad Goreski, included jewel drop earrings by Neil Lane, a classic gold Timex Dress Expansion Watch, along with a Lena Erziak clutch and Casadei black leather platform heels.
Ricci’s overall look was classic and simple, from her accessories to her makeup. She was given fresh, dewy skin look, along with smoky eyes and nude-pink lips. The hair was swept back in a sleek bun with side-swipe bangs in order to provide focus to the elegant dress.
Instead of stopping time, Rici chose to continue it in a sexy and modern way. Not only does she look chic and elegant, but with the help of Goreski and Siriano she was able to present a new spin to wearing the classic watch.
