Makeup artist Paul Starr, who has worked for Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie, Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Renee Zellweger and Jennifer Garner – was discovered dead on Tuesday in his Los Angeles apartment when friends became worried after not hearing from him for several days. He was thought to be 48.
During his 20 year plus career as a top makeup artist, Starr worked extensively in fashion and film. He was a key makeup artist at fashion shows for designers Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Dolce & Gabbana and Sass & Bide. He also worked with a who’s who of top fashion photographers, including Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Ellen Von Unwerth, and with commercial, film and video directors such as Tim Burton, Spike Lee and Paul Hunter.
Jennifer Garner said, "Paul Starr has this uncanny ability to look at a face and see what it needs. He’s done my face a thousand times and never repeated a look. I have never felt more like the best version of myself than when Paul has made me up."
The cause of death is still unknown.
