Summary: I think it’s an easy assumption to make that I love going to see The Blonds. Sitting through show after show of gowns and tea dresses, it’s nice to see designers go completely out of the box and do whatever they want (well, within reason of design). Loud in and color. That’s why nothing excites me more than going to a runway show knowing that the bass will be loud, the crowd will be full of intense, gothic misfits (i.e. see Adam “Glambert” Lambert) and designers just ready to have fun. This show is, of course, no exception.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, latex, crystals and three-dimesional sharks were on full display for the show entitled “Psycho Beach Party”. Sparkling star-adorned necklines added a touch of glitz to bustiers covered in layers upon layers of rainbow hued grosgrain ribbons. The classic lipstick print highlighted sleek swimsuits with plunging necklines and finished with an edgy leather moto jacket. And nothing finished a party better than boys walking in crystal covered speedos topped with a lipstick applique.
It’s hard to critique a fashion show with no real discernible fashion. The Blonds did attempt to re-create some of the current trends like the big hair and peplum silhouette but those were drowned out in the oversized lipstick details and ultra-tight and tiny dresses. How can you judge a show with a crystal-covered nipple bustier and latex leggings? Let’s just say it was a fun party… until they kicked us out anyways.
