New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Heart Truth Red Dress Collection 2012. Rebecca Romijn, Christie Brinkley, Gloria Estefan and More Celebrities
Even if you’re worried about what to wear, you can never go wrong with red. Red is the color of fire, power, vitality, and in the case of the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, it’s the color to bring awareness to heart disease, which it has every year since it began 10 years ago.
New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012-2013 is upon us and not a moment too soon! We can always count on the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection to give us hope through its charity, but also to lighten up our moods watching lovely ladies slink down the red carpet in designer red dresses. The celebs who participate are no runway models, but they certainly bring lightness and laughter to every step as they swoosh in lavish red dresses by top designers for a good cause.
This year, the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection is celebrating its 10th year by making this runway show an ode to the red dress as a symbol of awareness for heart disease. “Sometimes we think heart disease is a man’s problem, but it’s actually a big problem for us,” says Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican actress who walked in the show wearing stunning Oscar de la Renta. “I’m just happy and honored to be part of this wonderful cause,” says actress Jeanette Torres-Alvarez, who walks the runway along with big names like Rebecca Romijn and Minka Kelly.
While yes, the show is for a good cause, there were some fun moments. Christie Brinkley swooshed her Pamela Roland dress (and almost fell!) Chaka Khan was the queen of them all (check out the photos!) and Gloria Estefan had a bouffant that rocked our world! And so while the spectacle went on, we had to pick out our favorite dresses from the bunch. Because, hey, why the hell not?
Patti Stanger is no stranger to making a statement. And we don’t always love what comes out of her mouth. But this time, we think she may have gotten it right. Although the voluminous ball gown skirt was a sight to our sore eyes (yes, Fashion Week just started, but we’re already tired,) those sharp shoulders sure made a grand entrance (and a good one at that.) Can’t say the same about the cleavage or the rest of the gown. Still, props to Marc Bouwer for honing in on the architectural power shoulder trend. We’ll always love that one.
Still can’t get enough of that bouffant hairdo! While the dress itself was pretty conventional, even for Narciso Rodriguez, I do love the way it cuts Gloria Estefan just right. It’s also totally age appropriate which a few of the other stars on the runway were lacking (ahem Christie Brinkley, Chaka Khan!) Beautiful creation for a beautiful woman.
Kinda hating the way Rose McGowan looks right now, but the dress itself is a stunner! Roberto Cavalli definitely knows how to dress a woman. The across-the-shoulder strap was Grecian goddess gorgeous but the mixed sequin and silk fabrics made the dress very modern, in addition to the slit and the power red color. Work it, girl!
Swirly, frothy, frilly, princess. Yes, we do love a good Marchesa. Rebecca Romijn certainly sells it. It’s no wonder she opened the show this year. Especially loving the cape and the pinched leaves accentuating the bust.
Bow down to Oscar! Oscar can do no wrong! While I had never heard of Giselle Blondet before this event, she certainly overpowered some of the others because her dress was just so easy, so beautiful, so red carpet worthy! It fit her in all the right places, and yes, I know Oscar de la Renta saved it for the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection event and it’s probably one-of-a-kind but I could certainly see it on any A-list celeb on any A-list celeb at a major awards show!
While many of the dresses weren’t so great (we wished Minka Kelly would have worn something sleeveless and just what was that drop-waist droopy thing on Jennifer Nettles), these are the other dresses that did it for me!
It was a lovely evening, to say the least!
