Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring '12. Leanne Marshall's Eco-Friendly Elegance

Summary: Project Runway winner Leanne Marshall showed this season at a trendy downtown art space in Manhattan. Her eco-friendly fabrics were both structured and detailed beautifully. The young, fun and flirty collection showcased pieces in silver, champagne and icy blue with pops of bright lemon. Both pretty and planet-friendly, constructed fabrics in cotton, hemp silk and bamboo jersey graced the runway. Marshall says of her line, “I play and sculpt with the materials and let them tell me what to do”, instead of beginning with a sketch, like most designers. Her architecturally-pleasing cocktail dresses and gowns are must-haves for the upcoming spring season.
After seeing the Project Runway alum’s collection walk the catwalk, it’s clearly evident why Marshall was the winner. Models showcased ensembles perfect for nights on the town, a benefit gala or wedding (yes, you can even wear Leanne Marshall to a wedding and no, I don’t mean as a guest!) Having dabbled in bridal wear, Marshall presented stunning gowns, perfect for any bride and some of my personal favorites in the collection. However, it was the last and final gown that ultimately stole the show: highlighter yellow, silk chiffon and gorgeous. The flawless pleats, sweetheart neckline and multiple tiers made for an intricate gown, fun finale and overall, a youthfully elegant show.
