Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring '12. A Techno Surfer Girl Vibe at Cut25

Summary: The Cut25 presentation from Yigal Azrouel, which featured bright popsicle hues against a cement loft space, gave me quite the refreshing wake-up! The models formed a geometric square in the center of large open space, and then one by one walked down a yellow taped runway of sorts, rotating and constantly changing up the color saturated presentation. The athletic surfer inspiration was apparent, but I also pictured how the pieces could well work for the city. The palette was a kaleidoscope of bright colors, Superman star prints and brightly colored shoes. There was also diversity in the shapes: long, short, pleats, insets, knits, layers, dresses, skirts, jumpsuits, leather jackets, cut-outs…you name it. Basically, if you couldn’t find something to like in this collection, you must not have been looking! The fun brightly-colored shoes in pink, grape and poppy looked comfortable, which I would bet to be true because they are Cut25 x FRYE. I had the opportunity to ask  Yigal Azrouel some questions at the presentation.
SCS: Tell me about the color! I see you have a lot of color here, more than your fall Cut25 collection.
Yigal Azrouel: Yeah yeah, I used a lot of color, it is trendy for spring, and comes from the techno-surfer girl inspiration, early 80s but very modern.
SCS: It looked like your surfer girl can move around well in these pieces.
Yigal Azrouel: Yes, some are higher cut on the necklines, the pieces skim the body and are sporty but still sexy.
