What were you doing and where were you when you discovered you’d gotten through to the final ten?
“I was actually running around getting fabrics, so I missed the call. I was drinking coffee when I called back, and when I heard the news I started shaking and spilled coffee all over my shirt. It’s completely ruined, but worth it.”

Once today is all over, how are you going to celebrate?

“Later this afternoon I’m going to be cultured and visit museums and galleries with a friend. I want to see the Matisse exhibition at MoMA. Then tonight we’ll hang out, but I don’t know where yet.”

What were you doing and where were you when you discovered you’d gotten through to the final ten?

“I was in my studio on Thirty-eighth Street in fittings for spring 2011. When I got the call it was incredibly surreal. I couldn’t believe it! I’d put my heart and soul into my application, so to be able to stand before the judges was incredibly gratifying and humbling.”

What were you doing and where were you when you discovered you’d gotten through to the final ten?
“I was driving back from Tennessee after a brutal day of making bag samples when I got the call. I’d been in the middle of nowhere without reception and when I heard the news I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding!’ and I started laughing. I couldn’t believe it. I drove to this roadside place and had homemade tamales and cold beer.”
