Macy's Passport Presents Glamorama 2011: Red Carpet

Last weekend marked the end of Chicago’s annual wait as ‘Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama 2011’ hit the city with an “Artrageous” bang! This year, Macy’s Passport’s showcase of fashion, music and dance promised a not-to-be-missed spectacle featuring amazing performances including headlining acts Far East Movement and Cee Lo Green.  Proceeds from this year’s show went to serve Ronald McDonald House Charities, Chicago’s crucially important beneficiary, who strive to keep its doors open and provide a “home away from home” to keep families of hospitalized families together in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.

Before the show got underway, we got the opportunity to meet some of the performers and special guests on the red carpet in the Chicago Theater. Far East Movement, the uber-stylish quartet from L.A.’s club scene have become known for their chart-topping dance grooves such as “Like a G6” and “Rocketeer”. Yet despite their ability to blow the roof off a concert with their mix of vocals, rap and spun beats, they were actually pretty soft spoken when speaking to press. Each sporting shades and some conglomerate of a funky yet dapper suit, the Far East Movement gents discussed their inspirations like Beastie Boys and Outkast and their current tour with rap sensation Lil Wayne.

They also mentioned their appreciation for Chicago’s status as an urban jungle, citing the breathtaking shots from the epic film “Dark Knight” as an appropriate homage to the city’s famed architecture. As for style advice, they noted the importance of staying true to your individuality. Even if it’s within a group such as their own where there are commonalities to their wardrobe, they noted how each member has at least one reoccurring fashion item, be it a tie, or hat or jacket, that is unique to him. This prevents them from feeling to group-y and allows their individual fashion sense to stand out (good advice!)

Alisha Van Fosson, Child Ambassador

Also on the red carpet were child performers from the highly anticipated show and Alisha Von Fosson, Child Ambassador for Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama 2011 in Chicago. Alisha was born with a rare case of Spina Bifida and her left arm missing below the elbow. After many complicated surgeries and the development additional conditions, Alisha’s family struggled to keep her alive and healthy. But through the support and services of the Chicagoland Ronald McDonald House, Alisha gets stronger every day and continues her battle with grace and courage, referring to the Ronald McDonald House as “home.” In an adorable water-colored dress, Alisha walked the red carpet looking every part the star.

Cee Lo Green on the red carpet

Minutes before the show was set to start, Cee Lo Green made his grand entrance, sporting a curious-looking burnt orange silk shirt and knee-length denim shorts (we were hoping for peacock feathers!) Yet despite his mundane outfit, in his few moments on the carpet, Cee Lo hammed it up for photographers and posed with Alisha and the child performers, before scooting up to take his place backstage. It was time for the show to begin!
