Naomi Campbell unveils the Louis Vuitton carrying case for the FIFA World Cup trophy

As the entire world gears up for World Cup fever, you may begin to feel left out if you care more about fashion than football (er, soccer). But now even us luxury lovers have something to get excited about before the first kick-off. FIFA picked none other than Louis Vuitton to design a dazzling custom-made, 18 ct. gold travel case for the World Cup trophy to be housed in for the duration of the games. "We are very proud to have been chosen by FIFA to create the case in which the world's ultimate sporting prize will in future travel the globe," a spokesperson for Louis Vuitton said. "This exceptional commission truly honors Louis Vuitton's 150- year tradition of craftsmanship and savoir-faire. We are also delighted to be part of the great festival of football that the 2010 FIFA World Cup promises to be, and to renew our ties with the host country South Africa, with which we have had for many years a very special relationship." The case was officially unveiled yesterday by Naomi Campbell in Paris.

The one of a kind trophy case was handmade in the company's original workshop in Asnières, which opened in 1859. It is of course covered in the LV iconic monogram canvas and is fitted with the company's signature brass lock and corners. Besides being the last word in chic luggage design, the luxury brand was commissioned for the job due to their long standing reputation of carrying case craftsmanship— Louis Vuitton also crafted the trunk that holds the world's oldest sporting trophy - the famous silver ewer of the 1851 America's Cup.
