On the hunt for a last minute addition to your summer wardrobe? A little white dress can be worn now, into fall and even next summer! When styled in different ways, you can get a lot of mileage out of a white dress with a flattering silhouette and versatile midi length. There are many different styles to choose from, so you’re bound to find one that works for your body type and lifestyle. And you don’t have to spend a fortune, either, because you can get these looks for less.
Little White Dress Runway Inspiration
The little white dress was in for spring and continues its reign this summer. We spotted the trend last fall as we studied the runways for spring ’19. The little white dress appeared in many different ways and in new shapes, layers and modern elements and were popular on runways such as Chloe, Proenza Schouler and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Luckily for women over 40, longer lengths are more popular now than ever!
Long White Dress with Romantic Details
For a boho style dress that could double as a cover up, look no further than this ethereal dress from Free People. Its romantic details like crochet and drop waist make this an effortless look that’s carefree yet remains elegant. Paired with sandals, a woven bag and beach hat, you’d be the picture perfect version of your best vacation self. This dress would also look great with heels and chunky jewelry as an unexpected breath of fresh air at a dinner party. Wear it with booties, tights and a sweater in the fall to bring an unexpected pop of white to a sea of people wearing the usual sweater and jean combination.
The Classic White Shirt Dress
You can never go wrong with a white shirt dress, so why not snap up an updated, on-trend version in white? This crisp shirt dress from ASOS features a flattering tie waist and funky patch pocket. It would look equally chic dressed down with sneakers and a red lip running errands on the weekends as it would with a fun heel and statement jewelry for after work drinks. The dress is like a blank canvas for your accessories!
Ruffled Peasant White Dress
For a feminine white dress that’s equal parts elegant and effortless, this peasant dress from Anthropologie gives off French countryside je ne sais quoi vibes. This dress is so simple and its flattering tailoring would look very elegant on many body types. This long white dress would look great in many situations. It’s a comfortable dress to throw on when hanging out and cooking at home, or with wedge heels and a fun crossbody bag for brunch with friends on the weekends. You can wear this one with booties and tights in the fall too!
Linen Tie Midi Dress
For a simple, classic linen dress, this one from Mango checks every box on my wish list. Midi length? Check. Flattering belt tie? Check. Thick straps and dainty buttons? Check and check! I love this dress because it will elongate your silhouette and you’ll look like a million bucks even if you barely had time to get dressed in the morning. This dress would definitely be one of my go-to’s when I need to look polished and am not in the mood to pull together a complicated outfit. It would look great with sandals, mules or heels. Heck, it’d even class up a pair of plain white sneakers.
White Lace Dress For Parties
Have a party coming up? Why not buy a versatile white dress you can style differently and wear over and over again? This white lace dress from Nordstrom has a perfect midi length and airy silhouette, reminding me of sun drenched garden parties and picnics. It’s equally part playful and part sophisticated. When the sun goes down, drape a sweater over your shoulders to stay warm. A plus – this dress is under $100, so if it’s flattering on you, then you can always get it in multiple colors. It comes in ten colors including burgundy and olive green.
A Sophisticated Little White Dress is Always a Good Option!
Little white dresses are always a good idea. They will always be considered classic and come in many different styles ranging from a boho chic or peasant dress to a crisp shirt dress or linen strap dress. Plus, you’ll stay cooler in white when it’s hot outside!
