John Galliano, who was decorated as a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor at the Élysée Palace in 2010, has been stripped of the merit award. The revocation was recently published by France’s official journal by decree of the President François Hollande as a consequence of Galliano’s conviction last year for his racist and anti-Semitic public insults. It’s about time!
Galliano was quickly ousted from Dior, his signature fashion house, in the wake of the drunken outbursts at a Paris café. He testified in court last year, and blamed work-related stress and multiple addictions for his behavior. The designer has kept a low profile since then, and we have not seen much of him. Hopefully he will focus on his rehabilitation.
