Jill Kargman At L.K.Bennett In Chicago For Booksigning: The Rock Star In Seat 3A
Jill Kargman was in Chicago on Tuesday to sign her latest beach read, The Rock Star In Seat A. A cocktail party was held in her honor at L.K.Bennet in Chicago at The 900 North Michigan Shops. What better combination than champagne, delicious bites, fashion (we love L.K.Bennet dresses and shoes!) and discussing a juicy book…directly with the author herself!
Jill was so warm and friendly that she hugged me before she even spoke to me! A mother of three children (ages 9, 6 and 4) she said she loved her day (free to roam) in Chicago and thinks this is a “Great City for New Yorkers who don’t drive.” Jill lives on the upper East Side of New York City, and may run into Lauren our Editor-In-Chief! This is where she got a lot of material for Momzillas (not Lauren, but the Upper East Side). Jill looked stunning in a black L.K. Bennett dress and sandals and has one of those tiny figures where she can eat anything she likes and stay slim. “I am eating all of the food they are serving,” she told me.
I had to ask her how her latest book came to be. It was inspired by a real dinner party where she was with friends playing party games and “Which Celebrity Would You Have A Fling With?” was the topic. She said that everyone came up with “Pansy people” and she said that for her it would be Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. She said her husband basically said, “Have at it!” which was the initial concept for the book. I asked her if she met Trent Reznor, and now because of the book maybe she could? “No, I don’t want to! I want to keep it a fantasy. What if I am disappointed?” she said. However, she did research on him and on how he talks and his mannerisms for the book. “This book is about roots vs. wings.”
About Jill Kargman
After graduating college she worked her way up the magazine ranks and used the inspirational toil of assistant life to co-write the 2000 Sundance film “Intern”. Success with her book of essays, SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE A NUT and novels such as WOLVES IN CHIC CLOTHING and THE EX-MRS. HEDGEFUND has been accompanied by her work as a featured writer for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, Elle, and more.
Her recently released novel (just in time for beach reading), THE ROCK STAR IN SEAT 3A is about a down-to-earth, New York City girl who suddenly finds herself in a rock ‘n’ roll Cinderella fantasy. Her wicked humor is ever present in this tale of chance encounters and choices that can shape the future.
What would you do if your dream celebrity crush sat next to you? Hazel has everything she’s ever wanted: a kickass job at a video-game company, a dream New York City apartment, and the perfect boyfriend who is about to propose. The morning after her 30th birthday, Hazel leaves for a business trip and receives a surprise upgrade to first class, boards the plane, and sees the person in seat 3A: it’s her celebrity crush, rock star Finn Schiller. Just the night before, she had confessed her infatuation with Finn at her birthday party, and her boyfriend joked that she had a free pass if she ever met him. Hazel can’t believe fate has actually thrown them together. Even more unbelievable is the flight that follows, as they genuinely connect. What started as a fantasy quickly becomes a real attraction after a dream date, and a taste of the rock-star life with Finn in Los Angeles. Hazel is torn between the security of setting roots, and the freedom of wings. Indulging in a passionate affair with a rock star seems crazy, but could she ever forgive herself if she walked away from her wildest dreams coming true?
Seasoned with her signature wit, and hilarious dialogue Kargman creates a fairytale romance with a twist. The Los Angeles Times called Kargman, “the new David Sedaris” and W magazine called Kargman “brilliantly uncensored”.
We look forward to having Jill back in Chicago with her next best-seller, but meanwhile and I can’t wait to read THE ROCK STAR IN SEAT 3A on Oak Street beach!
