You may have noticed turtlenecks, mocknecks, and other high necklines popping up in stores right now, often in the form of long-sleeve tops or dresses cut close to the body.
The High Neckline Trend
We’re big fans of the look for multiple reasons. A higher neckline makes an exceptional backdrop for bold necklaces and earrings. Plus the silhouette is a great way to show off the work you’ve been doing in the gym — without showing any actual skin.
Here are some of our favorite ways to wear a high neckline this winter…

Abstract Prints
We love all the stunning graphic prints we’re seeing this season, and a bold print on a high-neck top makes for a standout statement piece. This option from Aqua looks great with everything from wide-leg jeans to A-line or pencil skirts—and just about anything in between.
Animal Inspired
Leopard, tiger, zebra, and any other prints that draw inspiration from nature’s most stunning creatures work well with this silhouette. Go a little sporty with this mock neck tee from Nike. It feels equally at home under a blazer or paired with joggers.
Classical Motifs
A baroque or Art Nouveau print adds some visual interest to a more covered-up ensemble. Try this option from Cynthia Rowley with black pants or skirt for a creative, modern outfit that hardly needs any accessories.
Florals for Winter
We love a bold and bright floral print, even in the colder months. We’ve seen some beautiful options with high necks like this one from AFRM at Revolve that would look sharp with your most beloved black pants (no matter what silhouette they are) as well as under a blazer or suit jacket.
Paired With Wide Leg Pants
A slim turtleneck with sharply tailored trousers is a classic for a reason: the clean, fitted line on top balances the structure and volume below, creating a long, streamlined silhouette that feels intentional, polished, and quietly powerful—especially in midlife, when great proportions do more heavy lifting than trends ever could. Just pair a basic black version like this one from Intimissimi with trousers in a menswear fabric like these from ASOS Design.
On Top of A Full Skirt
Fitted on top and full on the bottom creates a beautifully classic silhouette, especially for evening or special occasions. Take the same black turtleneck mentioned above and pair it with a tailored wool skirt with some volume to it, like this Karen Millen option. It would be perfect with knee high boots. This shape is idesal for formal soirées as well, just make the skirt floor-length and add some opera-length pearls or major statement earrings.
Fitted All The Way Down
A high-necked, narrow-cut midi dress has a grown-up sex appeal that we love, and no one does it better than Norma Kamali. Belt it (or don’t), add some chunky jewelry, and you’re set for most occasions.
