Creative director of Vogue and famously bushy redhead, Grace Coddington, has announced her plans to pen a memoir.  WWD reported today that Coddington and former Men’s Vogue editor in chief Jay Fielden are preparing a proposal for her autobiography. Coddington apparently tapped Fielden to help write the book after  she was approached by agents and publishers looking to translate her incredible life (made famous from last year’s documentary “The September Issue”) into a titillating tome.
Coddington confirmed the plans, stating “We’re just starting, and I think it’s going to be a really fun project,” she told WWD, adding: “I’m hoping it’s going to be very rich in fashion history. It’s more than just about me.” The book will cover Coddington’s early life in Wales, her modeling days in Sixties London, the tragic car accident that changed her career path and her progression through fashion’s ranks as a stylist and editor at British Vogue and, eventually, enlistment into Vogue’s American style scene. Coddington and Fielden have apparently signed with noted literary agent Elyse Cheney (who’s worked with the likes of Dave Eggers, Benjamin Kunkel, James Wolcott and A.O. Scott) and plan to shop the finished proposal to publishers this fall. So stay tuned-this is bound to be a juicy read!
