Thankfully, it is (or almost is) time for open-toed shoes of all kinds. Anything from peep-toed booties to chunky platform sandals to open-toed flats are the perfect options for early spring.
That said, you don’t necessarily want to look like you’re trying to bring the beach to the city – at least not this early in the season. The key to transitioning from boots and other winter footwear gracefully is to go with more coverage than your summertime sandals. Here are some of our favorites:
Open Toe Flats – If you typically wear ballet flats, an open toe version like these blush pink Stuart Weitzman shoes is the perfect way to warm it up. Plus, while the neutral color will go with almost everything, but we like the idea of wearing these with an all black outfit.
Peep-Toe Booties – While the concept of an open toe boot may still seem like an oxymoron, they can be a fun way to change up an outfit and make some of your more wintery clothes make the transition into spring. We like this not-so basic black pair from Express – they’re inexpensive and a great way to get in on the open-toed boot trend.
Platform Sandals – Granted, this kind of look can be difficult to pull off, but when done well, it is utterly chic. Picture these classic horsebit Gucci sandals peeking out from a pair of boyfriend jeans or cigarette pants with a fitted top with relatively simple accessories.
Caged Sandals – While delicate and bare sandals can look excellent with breezy summer outfits, they can look awkward with spring clothes, especially if you’re wearing a jacket. However, caged straps like these nude Vince Camuto platforms are ideal for this time of year, and these black Nine West stilettos could be a more formal option.
Peep Toes With Ankle Straps – Not only does a ankle strap give you more stability when you are walking around in your heels, they also have subtle sexiness about them that’s undeniably appealing. Try a pair like these teal Max Studio mary janes as a way to add a pop of color to an all-white or otherwise pale neutral outfit.
Strappy Flats – Sometimes, basic just doesn’t cut it. We suggest wearing something like these Mysuelly peep toes with a cropped pant and flowy top and perhaps a blazer or vest as well.
There’s always something delightful about the first time you get to wear open toe shoes in the spring, so make sure you have the best pair possible – and don’t forget your pedicure! After all, now that is time for open toes and sandals, you need to keep your feet on point if you are going to show them off.
