Fashion Focus Chicago 2008. Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion: Chicago's Rising Stars

Pete Wentz of Clandestine Industries was the host. He gave an important report on the status of the Cub game.

Last night Second City Style was treated to a fashion show that included some of Chicago’s rising stars, courtesy of Gen Art. Although some of the looks reminded us a little too much of Forever 21’s disposable trendy pieces, there were several pieces that made us crave spring 2009. Frei Designs stood out with Anne Marie Novotny’s avant-garde and sculptural approach to layering fabrics. Many of the details on Elise Bergman‘s pieces showed us her skill in understated refinement.

On a more immediately useful note, prior to the show we got to go backstage and meet Lancome makeup artist Alex Sanchez, who showed us his lookbook for the upcoming series of Fashion Focus Chicago shows. The makeup for this particular show was a young, fresh "street chic" type of look, with graphite-hued cat’s eyes and pale glossy lips. He showed us fun tricks like how to make a "3" from forehead to cheekbone to chin with an all-in-one bronzer and brush and to add lots of extra gloss to the center of your lower lip for this look.

  1. I loved loved Shorty Clothing at Fresh Faces! They were by FAR my fave. The music totally got the crowd pumped. From the first row you could see that all of their fabrics moved and flowed so beautifully. The little tiny gold buttons were such a lovely touch. I also loved that fact that the company is a collaborative of women! Go GIRLS! GO CHICAGO!
