7 Chic Ways to Wear Fringe This Summer for Women Over 50

One of the top fashion trends for spring and summer 2025 has actually been going strong for a few years—and it’s not fading anytime soon. I’m talking about the fringe trend, and if the latest designer runways are any indication, fringe fashion is here to stay. We spotted it everywhere in the Spring 2025 collections and again on the Fall 2025 runways.

Best Ways to Wear Fringe for Summer

But how do you wear fringe in the summer without looking like you’re headed to a rodeo—or like you’re trying too hard? Especially for women over 50, the key is balance. My advice is to wear fringe in moderation, one piece at a time of course.

Fringe can make a bold statement, which is fabulous if you’re confident in standout styles. But if you’re like me and want to keep it subtle and chic, there are plenty of ways to enjoy this playful texture without going full flapper.

This season’s fringe comes in many variations and and materials—beyond the traditional suede or leather strips. You’ll find fringe in satin cords, woven raffia, delicate knit yarns, and even as metal chains. It’s often used as raw trims and hems on linen, denim and other woven fabrics. Fringe adds texture, movement and a bit of flirtiness to your outfit. No wonder designers love fringe—it’s a fun and creative element that makes fashion unique.

Here are 7 of my favorite ways to wear fringe this summer. You don’t need to go overboard—just a little fringe can go a long way in refreshing your summer wardrobe.

Wear Fringe for Summer

1. Fringe Top

Pair a simple fringe-trimmed top like this multicolored stripe knit one with denim, white jeans, or a black pencil skirt. You’ll wear it all summer long.

2. Fringe-Trim Jacket

A fringe-trim jacket can give you a pulled together look in an instant. This fringe trim jacket will look amazing with white jeans and heels.

3. Fringe Hem Dress

Opt for a midi or knee-length fringe dress in breathable fabric. This fringe hem on this short sleeve dress adds just enough drama without overwhelming your look.

4. Fringe Skirt

This skirt is on the blingy side, but it’s perfect for a cocktail party or a wedding reception. Tone it down with a sleek tank or try it with a casual button front shirt, a la Carolina Herrera.

5. Fringe Sandals

Add a playful twist to any summer outfit with fringe-trim sandals. They’re a fun and easy way to try the trend without a big commitment.

6. Fringe Handbag

A fringe handbag instantly adds movement and personality to your outfit. This straw bag is adorable! Crossbody, clutch, or bucket style—it’s all about texture this season.

7. Fringe Jewelry

Fringe earrings or a statement necklace can dress up even the simplest outfit. Try metallics like these chain earrings or natural materials like thread or raffia for a summery touch.
