This week’s edition of Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, features stylist, editor, and French fashion icon Carine Roitfeld. In an exclusive interview with the chic online retailer, Roitfeld discusses her personal style and health secrets which include a daily ballet lesson and facial massages. She also talks about beauty and her love of the Thai spa Chiva-Som, initially recommended to her by Kate Moss.
Although it is hard to believe, the fashion icon admits she “never felt that confident about my style” until she met Tom Ford. He gave her style his “stamp of approval” and the pair collaborated frequently throughout his 14-year run at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Roitfeld’s style advice includes “Use what’s underneath – put it outside” and “Do what you are not supposed to do, like wear white shoes all year round.” She mostly wears black “because it is easy” and clothes by designer friends.
Like any stylish woman, she loves shoes. Mario Testino once urged her to ditch ballet flats and wear high heels more often. She prefers Gianvito Rossi’s footwear because his seductive stilettos are both “chic and comfortable.” Her partner, Christian Restoin, founder of the label Equipment, gives her style advice also. “I always ask him what he thinks,” Roitfeld confesses.
Last year Roitfeld became a grandmother and launched her own publishing brand and magazine, CR Fashion Book, available at crfashionbook.com. All the clothes worn in this self-styled shoot are available at Net-A-Porter. You can read Carine’s interview and see more pictures at net-a-porter.com/magazine.
