Fall Beauty Blowout Part 1: Barneys New York Beauty Guru Jason Ascher Picks This Season's Top Products

Jason Ascher with moderator, Charlotte Blechman for Barneys New York
Autumn has arrived and finally, it’s time to banish that frizz-inducing humidity and makeup-running heat for fresher, fuller, beauty-friendly fall temps. Then again, we all know there is no such thing as a real beauty-friendly season. Usher one out and breath a sigh of relief and another comes barreling in, chock full of elements to make our face dry, our hair limp and our lips not so kissably smooth. With each flip of the calendar page we must ready ourselves with an arsenal of beauty booty with which to do battle. Luckily, this season we’ve done the legwork for you with the help of resident beauty guru for Barneys New York, Jason Ascher. Ascher serves as a sort of jack of all trades for the luxury retailer, serving as the in-house makeup artist and virtuoso in haircare, skincare and fragrance as well. AND he knows the clothes. He can suggest a product for a gentle curl to match that new red lipstick and then escort you upstairs to find a gorgeous lady coat to complete the look. He is a one man show of all things fabulous. And last week, a few of us lucky beauty enthusiasts got to sit back and take in his exclusive picks for the best beauty buys of the season.

He started out with introducing a few new lines of Barneys exclusives. Created by architect Carlos Hauber, Arquiste Parfums is a new line of six decadent fragrances inspired by history and which toe the line between classic and modern. Each scent has an accompanying story that it was inspired by, like a festival in 12th century Italy for the spicy, citrusy L’Etrog. Or my personal favorite, the smell of an Aztec festival in the 15th century in Flor Y Canto – a full bouquet of tuberose, plumeria and marigold. The opulent scents are unisex, season-less and clearly, timeless.

For makeup, Ascher took us through the new Instant Face Compact by Claudio Ruiz, and all over color compact that provides a healthy, glowing flush against the growing chill. For the perfect application, Claudio Ruiz also came out with the Double Blush Brush, a squat little kabuki fluffer that can cover your face in one quick swipe. Before the blush though, Hourglass has come out with the perfect little tool to dab on that crucial aid, concealer. The new Hourglass Large Concealer Brush is a gentle way to smooth your concealer onto the under eye area and any other dark spots. Ascher even recommended using the brush to apply eye cream as well, noting that many women pat too hard when applying product with their fingers and end up pulling the delicate skin under the eye harder than they want to. A brush, like Hourglass’s, banishes all those pesky little rubs.
All your skincare solutions can be found with Radical Skincare
For the perfect skin-saving potions, Ascher covets all the fruit-infused nourishment from Radical Skincare. “It’s like a fruit salad for your face!’ he exclaimed. The Radical Skincare patent pending technology involves a natural-based formula that maintains its original integrity, therefore preserving the highest possible amounts of antioxidants. The result from such an age-defying recipe is firmer, smoother skin with increased elasticity and promotion of healthy skin cells. Asher couldn’t say enough about the line, especially the Age-Defying Exfoliating Pads which he described as both gentle and incredibly effective. He also reminded us that, especially as the weather gets more brutal, we should all be moisturizing our necks as well as our faces. Contrary to popular belief, face cream is not effective on the neck area and only a product like the Firming Neck Gel will prevent those naughty little neck nooks from turning into full-in folds.
Grgeous votives from Astier de Villatte Candle
Other standout products  Asher featured included the Kre-at Beauty False Eyelashes, (which come with a handy little applicator tool and adhesive), Rodin Olio Crema Luxury Hand and Body Creams, Serge Normant’s Meta Morphosis Hair Repair Treatment and a showstopping candle from Astier de Villatte. Each decadent delight is available now at Barneys New York locations and online at barneys.com.
