I have totally flipped for mixed media! Especially when it comes to leather combined with pretty much anything. Black wool with faux black leather? I’ll take it. Grey jersey mixed with black leather? I’ll take that too. A green military jacket with black leather sleeves? Yes, please. A trench coat with textured leather sleeves? Don’t stop! The key to mixed media is to look for items that play with contrasting textures- leather with wool, fur with chiffon, sequins with faux leather… you get the idea. The idea is for the unexpected to work in an edgy, yet wearable way. Mixed media was all over the fall ’12 runways in shows such as Reed Krakoff, Bottega Veneta, Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Rachel Roy and DKNY, just to name a handful.
