Beauty Buzz. EVOLENCE® Dermal Filler

I was way overdue for little pre-holiday pick-me up, so when the chance came to try the new dermal filler EVOLENCE® presented itself, I intrepidly jumped at the chance to try it. After all, I checked out Juvederm last year and have been a fan of Botox for awhile.

On June 27, 2008, dermal filler EVOLENCE® was approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. OK, so what is it? EVOLENCE® is an advanced collagen-based structural dermal filler that provides long-lasting (6 months to a year) treatment for correction of moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. The results of treatment with EVOLENCE® are immediate and with minimal to no downtime post-treatment. It is now considered one of the best fillers on the market today.

Injected just below the skin’s surface, EVOLENCE® replaces facial collagen, which naturally depletes as a person ages, with naturally sourced collagen, adding volume to contour, fill or smooth wrinkles and folds. Results are a more refreshed, natural and youthful appearance of the skin…immediately.
 
How is it different? Unlike other dermal fillers (Juvederm) that use hyaluronic acid (HA), which absorb water to create their effect, EVOLENCE® is a natural, true structural agent due to its three-dimensional collagen matrix. This collagen structure is why there is minimal bruising and swelling. EVOLENCE® does not use chemicals for cross-linking like many other products do, but instead uses natural sugar to improve durability.

Collagen has been available for 30 years now! The naturally sourced porcine collagen used in EVOLENCE® is the most genetically similar to human collagen. This form of collagen has been used safely and effectively for decades in various medical applications including heart valve replacement.

Before and (six months) After

Since it is derived from pig collagen (yes, pig) you don’t need a skin test to use it. The original collagen came from cows and you not only needed a skin test prior to the injection, the results only lasted 3 months. EVOLENCE® is an all natural product and uses natural sugar as a binding agent. Your body accepts it as your own, binding with your natural collagen. Therefore it replaces exactly what you lose when you age.

Now I know you are dying to know what I thought, right? Well, the doctor who performed my injections (Dr. Debra Jailman) was fantastic. I liked her immediately and when she told me Johnson & Johnson made her go through training even though she has been doing injectables forever, I relaxed. She informed me that it is not a replacement of Botox as you should only use EVOLENCE® on your nasolabial folds (the parenthesis around your mouth).

The area was numbed and the injections which took only minutes did sting a bit, but when I looked in the mirror right after…I was amazed! I literally could not stop staring at myself. I had no idea how deep those commas around my mouth had become until I saw my reflection mere minutes after treatment. Not only that, when I left the office I ran errands because I had no swelling or bruising.

Now I have to make an appointment with Dr. Jaliman for Botox so the upper half of my face matches the youthful appearance of my lower half!
