Sometimes formality just needs to be tossed out the window but if you’re the kind of woman who still can’t completely relinquish chic then take a moment to peruse Elijah from designer Keryn Dizon. And thanks to Neiman Marcus, we can get a bit of insight into how she creates her sensuous selections: From NM: Keryn Dizon is not only a fashion designer, but she’s also a New Yorker and mother of two. It was her busy lifestyle and need for "unfussy luxury" that inspired her collection. As a result, her fashions combine comfort with effortless glamour–perfect for women on the go. NM: Why did you start designing?
KD: I think I have always been designing; it has always brought me a peace of mind and an amazing sense of fulfillment. I love the design process; it doesn’t start and stop on a piece of paper for me. It’s about the craft, the sculptural aspect of creating a garment–be that on a dress form or beside a sewer at the factory.

NM: Describe your collection in three words.
KD: Modern, smart, practical luxury (Oops! That’s four).
NM: What inspires you?
KD: Eveningwear of yesteryear, the "idea" of dressing up and bringing glamour and ease to modern women in their everyday lifestyle. New York City women inspire me.
NM: What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
KD: The first trade show we did with Elijah was amazing. I had been working on Elijah for about a year, and it was really the first time I could see others’ reactions to something that meant so much to me. I couldn’t have wished for a greater response to that first collection.
NM: What is your ultimate goal?
KD: To bring timeworn elegance and modern ease to the modern woman.
NM: What three things would you want on a deserted island?
KD: Red wine, a few good novels, and companionship.
NM: What phrase do you say most often word do you say most often?
KD: Life is good!
