Designers Visit Chicago for Barneys New York Shopping Event In Support of UNICEF
This past Wednesday Barneys New York, Martha Metz, Wendy Serrino, Susie Silich, and Tina Trott hosted An Afternoon of Shopping to Benefit the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Designers (pictured above from left to right) Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock of Brock Collection, Esteban Cortazar, Poppy King of Lipstick Queen, and Sharon Khazzam were in Chicago to meet shoppers at Barneys New York on Oak Street. A percentage of sales were donated to UNICEF through the Barneys New York Foundation.
ABOUT THE U.S. FUND FOR UNICEF
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to put children first. UNICEF has helped save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization, by providing health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF’s work through fundraising, advocacy and education in the United States. Together, we are working toward the day when no children die from preventable causes and every child has a safe and healthy childhood.
ABOUT THE DESIGNERS
Brock Collection (RTW) – After they met at Parsons, Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock decided to collaborate on their talent and founded Brock Collection in 2013. Brock is a highly sought after tailor and pattern maker, having been sewing since the age of six and with a decade of experience. Vassar has a clear vision for true fashion having worked as a celebrity and editorial stylist and later under Theory Designer, Olivier Theyskens. The couple’s skills complement each other and so the duo works together to reinvent wearable fashion and create clothes that you can live in.
Sharon Khazzam (Jewelry) – Intense colors, carved gemstones and polished gold settings are all hallmarks of Sharon Khazzam’s gorgeous bold work. Launched at Barneys New York in 2001, each of Khazzam’s stunning creations is lovingly hand-crafted. Such care and attention ensures that no two pieces are identical, offering the wearer a truly one-of-a-kind purchase.
Esteban Cortazar (RTW) – In 2002, Esteban Cortazar became the youngest designer ever to show during New York Fashion Week while still in high school at the age of 18. A decade and a half later, his collections continue to garner rave reviews for their sensual silhouettes and breezy use of patterns and color, all of which are deeply influenced by the energy and spirit of Miami’s South Beach where Cortazar grew up.
Lipstick Queen (Cosmetics) – At 18 years old, Poppy King launched her first brand of lipstick in Australia, called Poppy. She created a line of 7 lipstick colors named after the 7 deadly sins, inspired by 1940s beauty. Only a year later, Barneys picked up the line to be sold on Madison Avenue and Poppy soon after followed, moving to New York to work for Estée Lauder. 20 years on, Poppy King wrote a book called Lessons of a Lipstick Queen about entrepreneurship, and in the process started a new lipstick brand known as Lipstick Queen, embodying vibrancy and glamour.
