Avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo, of brand Comme des Garçons, is influencing fashion high and low. She has recently teamed up with H&M for a one-off line this
winter, but she has also proposed a project to Louis Vuitton. She’s now set to design
six handbags that will be sold exclusively in a temporary Louis Vuitton shop at
the Comme des Garçons store in Tokyo’s Aoyama district this fall. Kawakubo said
the collection would include two original "party bags" she designed, plus
reeditions of two 30-year-old handbags. We’re glad to see a move away from the ever-present monogram styles! But if you’re a fan of the classic LV bag, don’t worry it’s there, too– Kawakubo has customized two versions of the current
monogram styles.
The temporary Luis Vuitton store’s interior will be "half luxury, half raw," while the H&M displays will be "red, pie-shaped shops" designed by Kawakubo herself.
