I recently sat down with designer Anna Fong during her Holiday Collection trunk show at one of my favorite Chicago boutiques, Cerato. Fong, known for her feminine silhouettes and attention to stylistic detail, created a beautiful holiday collection consisting of stunning fabrics, beautiful shapes and a certain fringe dress that I’m still lusting over.

Her collection is one that would truly make any woman feel like the most sophisticated and polished person in the room.

In designing her collection Fong draws inspiration from her favorite eras – the 1940s and 1980s. Blending timeless and classic design elements with modern fashion sensibilities, she draws on her understanding of vintage clothing, fashion history and tailoring, accenting it with bohemian and ethnic details. Her designs are clean and fresh offering an original look, with a classic undertone. They are made for a style-conscious woman who might be aware of trends, but surely does not rely on them.

Here are a few of the highlights from my conversation with this local design star:

SCS:  What trends are you seeing this season?

Anna Fong:  I’m seeing a lot of prints and lace – especially animal prints, faux furs and fake leathers – all of these details are so big right now. As far as accessories go, chunky heels and chunky jewelry are a must for the season! And nails, nails are the new accessory, and there are tons things women can do to make them more festive!

SCS:  What’s your favorite piece from your holiday collection?

YES! I LOOK FORWARD TO #GROWINGYOUNGER

Anna Fong:  While I love them all, the floor-length lace Ailani gown is my favorite piece of this collection.

SCS:  Who is the Anna Fong woman?

Anna Fong:  I design for a professional woman, aged 25-55, who has a full, fun  and active life.  She’s going to events after work and needs to be able to easily transition her work wear to her party wear.

SCS: What is the best advice you’ve received so far since you started your career in fashion design?

Anna Fong: Surround yourself with positive individuals and experts in the industry.

SCS: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Anna Fong: My goal is to take Anna Fong designs international; I hope in ten years my designs can be found all over the world.
