Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Fashion: Rachel McAdams, Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Aniston and more
Critics Choice – the only place where Amy Schumer can beat out BFF Jennifer Lawrence?
Probably, YES. But that’s not all. If you don’t know all that much about the Critics Choice Awards and how those winners are chosen, don’t fret! Just look at the stunning fashion. It’s always 50/50 on this event, which usually brings out the glam gowns, with the exception of those actresses that decide they want to go with a more cocktail dress and maxi dress casual look. And of course, there are a few pant suits and tapered pants in there, too. In sum, anything goes.
No, it’s not the Oscars, but it does have its share of fashion moments. Take a look:
Best Dressed
Was it the burgundy, the embellishment, or the sparkle that made these three dresses my favorites of the night? Perhaps it was the way these beautiful ladies wore them…with finesse. Certainly Rachel McAdams is looking her finest, but also take a look at Krysten Ritter and Alicia Vikander! It’s the best I’ve ever seen them…
Serenity Blue
Who knew this shade of powder blue would be such a winner this year on the red carpet? Well Pantone for one. It is one of their colors of the year. It’s also enough of a trend that at least 4 different actresses wore a semblance of it on the red carpet – and they all looked absolutely divine. Oh and let’s not forget Jennifer Aniston, but we will get to her later…
Black
Anyone else think Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks better than the model that wore this during Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent Spring 2016 runway show? Look that up and you’ll see what I mean.
Special Dresses
It was definitely Mayim Bialik‘s night! Not only did she stand out in this gorgeous Grecian green gown, but she also won an award!
At first, I wasn’t sure the color worked for me, but everything about the silhouette is gorgeous. Gina Rodriguez is definitely wearing this dress. The dress is not wearing her!
Cutest Couples
Worst Dressed
I know some of these additions may surprise you (and some may not) but I’ll explain why I decided to add these names to the Worst Dressed list!
Yes, I know it’s Chanel. Yes, typically Chanel can do no wrong. Except when it can. Great dress, but it’s not right for Kirsten Dunst, especially since I think the tiers make her look pregnant…when she’s probably not…or is she?
Another surprise here. Standing alone, this two-tone Dior color combo is unique and different and cool. And while it certainly looks nice on Zoe Kravitz, I believe it’s not the right ensemble for the night’s event, which saw a lot more gowns than it saw tapered pants (Riley Keough being one of the few exceptions.) So yes to Dior but no to THIS Dior at Critics Choice.
I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again – Helen Mirren can do no wrong! Except she can…
While I applaud the 70-year old actress for always looking divine and always taking risks, I would have preferred not seeing her in this wrinkled black and white floral print number, with matching textured (WRINKLED) clutch. I vote no to this one. Sorry Helen. I still love you A LOT.
A big fan of Hayden Panettier‘s return to the red carpet but not a fan of this blushy, massive cleavage number. I think I know the message you’re trying to send Hayden and I don’t like it.
Last but not least, it’s always a toss up with Melissa McCarthy. Sometimes she looks sensational and sometimes she looks like this. The olive green, the leafy, jungle print… it’s just not working for me.
