Last night was a beautiful fall evening in Chicago, the perfect backdrop for fittings, fun, and learning about a great cause! This October, Wacoal is helping to fight breast cancer with Fit for the Cure™!  The bra, underwear, and shapewear company is hosting a series of  Fit for the Cure events all over the country and offering special chances to shop, as well as give back. Wacoal’s Fit for the Cure events will be held all over the Chicagoland area throughout October, and we kicked of the festivities last night at the Dana Hotel.

We were treated to a complimentary bra fitting, in Wacoal or b.tempt’d intimate apparel, from a Wacoal fit specialist, a service each guest to a Fit for the Cure event will also receive. And as helpful as the fitting itself was (since research shows that 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong sized bra), for every woman that participates, Wacoal will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer research and community health programs. Wacoal will also donate an additional $2 for every Wacoal bra, shapewear piece or b.tempt’d bra purchased at these events.

For over 10 years, Wacoal has swept the nation educating and fitting more than 600,000 women across 411 cities about the importance of bra fit and foundation and overall breast health. To date, through Fit for the Cure™, Wacoal has donated more than $3.3 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We also learned that Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women and accounts for 26% of all cancers among women. Conducting monthly breast self-examination is a crucially important way to detect abnormalities at an early stage. And while the backbone of the event was all about health and wellness, it was also a nice to just enjoy the gorgeous view, kick back and do some bra shopping! In trying to choose among the dozens of available styles, the on-hand Wacoal experts informed us of the 8 types of bras every woman should have in their closet (who knew!) They are:
  1. One seamed bra
  2. One seamless, unlined bra
  3. One contour bra
  4. One strapless bra
  5. One T-Back or racerback bra
  6. A push-up or minimizing bra (depending on your figure type)
  7. One sport bra
  8. One drop dead sexy bra
Once we did a quick mental check list of our inventory back home, it was much easier to choose a style that we needed (or just wanted!) I personally went with the black and white version of the Embrace Lace, probably more #8 than anything else on the above list! And I can’t wait to see how it holds up with the rest of my (somewhat extensive) bra wardrobe.
