The city has been bustling with fashion activity all week! and Friday night will be no exception as philanthropist Richard H. Driehaus and his wife Inese Driehaus gear up to host The Tenth Anniversary Celebration of The Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence at 700 S. Des Plaines Avenue. This most elegant of affairs is an annual showcase for leading local student fashion designers from five area colleges and universities.
The evening will kick-off with a cocktail reception and silent auction. ABC7 Chicago’s Linda Yu will return as master of ceremonies for a special runway show featuring collections from the top student fashion designers at Columbia College Chicago, Dominican University, The Illinois Institute of Art, The International Academy of Design & Technology and The School of Art Institute of Chicago. Judging the competition this year will be Peach Carr, Owner and Designer, Peach Carr Designs (featured on Season 8 of Project Runway), Tracy Clifford, Founder & Owner, Tracy Clifford Style, and Garth Jackson, Global Store Director Michigan Avenue, Louis Vuitton.
The evening will also feature an additional runway showcase recognizing top designers who have participated in the event throughout the past 10 years plus an awards ceremony announcing this year’s winners. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chicago Fashion Incubator. And coinciding with the 10th anniversary show is a new website launch for Driehaus Design Initiative. The website will feature information on the history of the fashion show since 2002 including a photo archive, previous award winners, and a preview of items that will be offered during the silent auction. All this and more can be found at http://www.driehausdesign.org. We’ll see you there!
