Chicago Events. Sequin and TCW Magazine's First Day of Summer Shopping Event

What better way to usher in summer after a wet and dreary spring than with a splurge-worthy shopping event at Chicago boutique Sequin! Nestled into Boutique Row in the Lincoln Park area of Armitage and Halsted, Sequin sets itself apart from the pack with its dazzling array of gorgeous costume jewelry. The sweet and chic boutique partnered with Today’s Chicago Woman magazine for a special solstice party and a chance to peruse the new summer collection while supporting a great cause.

The displays of costume jewelry inside Sequin
Founded in 2000, Sequin started as a costume jewelry studio in Midtown Manhattan. Today, they continue to manufacture their own costume jewelry designs out of New York to equip their three retail locations in Chicago, Newport, RI and Palm Beach, FL. The brand also partners with high end designers and retailers for private label collections, such as the brilliant baubles we tried on in the Sequin for Bagdley Mischka collection.

The summer collection resonated with the fresh renewal of summer. Colored stones glinted off of every surface, sending out rays of turquoise, gold and crimson across the store. Layers of beads cascaded down earrings and necklaces, giving off a tropical oasis vibe. And the mixed metal pieces—from bib necklaces to gold and silver stacks of bangles—seemed instant must-haves for any season.

With pink champagne in hand, guests weaved in and out of the petite space to find their favorite pieces. 20 percent of the proceeds from the evening’s event went to benefit Today’s Chicago Woman Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity that raises grants for underfunded women’s and children’s charities. The staggering variety of items made purchasing a difficult endeavor, but the costume jewelry designs that the Sequin boutique carries range from $20 to about $1,000. So when it came down to making that tough decision between two pieces, most people just picked up both!

As one of the only three retail locations of Sequin jewelry, Chicago loves this little “gem” of a boutique. Stop by and scoop up an armload of summer staples for the office, cocktails or even the beach (guests received a gold necklace in the shape of a starfish in their goody bags!) To sum up the response to Sequin’s fashionable and feminine designs, guest Katie McLenaghan noted as her goodies were being wrapped, ” I think I’m set on jewelry for the next five years!” Sequin 845 W.
