Leather used to be for the Harley Davidson riding big boys – that is, until celebs like Halle Berry, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Lopez got their hands on it. Now leather is being paired with floral for a tough meets sweet vibe and used for softer looks in Spring. But we all know this versatile fabric is really at its best when its being used to transition into fall as something for the chilly weather that hugs the body and can be both tough and feminine at the same time.
Here are four celebrities that get it right, whether they’re out on the town, on day trips or simple leisurely strolls or at a major event.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
If you got it, flaunt it! Girls like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are long and lean with a lot of leg and not afraid to show it. She packs a punch with this Zadig & Voltaire mini skirt and a loose tank in black. Worried about showing too much too soon? Another rule of thumb is when you’re showing on the bottom, cover up on top. Leather is lovely but also classic and sexy at its best.
Heidi Klum
Leather dresses aren’t always easy to squeeze yourself into, but Heidi Klum does it right. Find one that fits your body without going overboard in any one area. There’s nothing wrong with playing up some assets, and Klum does it right in this eggplant number, which folds and squeezes but accentuates all the right areas.
Jessica Alba
Leather jackets, light or heavy, are the perfect layering piece. They come in all shapes and sizes, with embellishments and without. You can find them quilted and thick or cropped and short – like the one on Jessica Alba. Alba is a fan of the leather jacket and we’ve seen many different kinds on this lovely lady, but Ralph Lauren does a cropped moto jacket good as she pairs the coat with a fairly conservative look that makes it stand out even more.
Jamie Chung
When in doubt, go full out! Leather is luscious on its own but it’s also great when embellished with studs or spikes. Jamie Chung adds some pizzazz to her ensemble by pairing her wearable white tank and yellow jacket with Doma shorts. Play up leather with embellishments galore but you can pair it down too by mixing it with easy items as the actress does here.
Sandra Bullock
Pencil skirts are the de rigeur for fall and what better way to combine two of the season’s mainstays than by wearing a leather pencil skirt! This ASOS skirt is so popular it’s already been seen on the likes of Ashlee Simpson, Elizabeth Olson, and yes, Sandra Bullock. The skirt is totally affordable but also totally wearable and it’s the perfect piece to transition from day to night because it can be dressed up or dressed down.
Hmm, do you think I should wear it to work after Labor Day?
