Are you sorry to hear that Kim Kardashian has ended her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries? I mean, if you haven’t heard the news, you must be living under a rock, after all they showcased their faulty marriage for all to see, with an engagement on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a big to-do wedding, and a sudden divorce filing on Halloween, just 2 months after their marriage on August 20, 2011.
Regardless of what you have to say about Kim Kardashian and her “showmance,” one thing’s for certain — the girl sure knows how to dress! And a short-lived marriage can’t seem to keep her down (although unfortunately the scandal following this escapade certainly has). While still wearing her typical sharp shouldered blazers, white tunics, leggings, metallic dresses, cleavage baring frocks, she’s managed to look better post marriage then she ever has before, and that might just be because she seems to have a sense of self and knows what she likes–at least where fashion is concerned. In the picture above, for example, she wears simple black trousers with a white top, gold buckle belt, and leopard print shoes. Classy, womanly, fabulous…
How many other celebs have looked just as good just after a harsh breakup? Quite a few, actually. Here, Second City Style highlights those fashionably fierce ladies who look even better once they’ve flown the coop and broken free from a relationship that wasn’t working. Perhaps it may just give you motivation to go out and look great yourself if this should ever happen to you.
Reese Witherspoon
There was absolutely nothing wrong with Reese’s style in the past. It was cutesy, to say the least. Very girl-next-door. Boy, did that change when she divorced Ryan Phillippe in 2006 after two kids. Suddenly Reese appeared at the Golden Globes in 2007 and she was wearing bangs, a totally toned body, and a dress in a bold color. She replaced her cute, vintage styles with wow-me brands, colors, and prints like Zac Posen and Stella McCartney and the rest, we can say, is history.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were the celeb couple everyone thought was going to last. They were both sweet, both private, and both fighting to make it work. But it didn’t work and while some thought sexpot Scarlett had something to do with it, no one knows for sure. One thing I noticed about Scarlett post-breakup though is that she lost that sexpot image just a bit and replaced her fashion with more wearable dresses that were statement-making without being overtly sexy. Case in point, the form-fitting fashions of Dolce & Gabbana, which Scarlett has worn a number of times. She’s currently the face of the brand.
Jessica Biel
Yes, we know. This celebrity makeover phenomenon doesn’t really apply to Jessica Biel, right? After all, she and Justin Timberlake are supposedly back together. But it did back then when they first broke up. We were used to seeing Jessica Biel as a tomboy and suddenly, she was wearing a range of beautiful styles from designers like Giambattista Valli. Looking more and more like a lady, everyday. Is that what’s helping her win the bigger roles? Or is she simply growing into her womanly figure, thanks in part to JT himself. That remains to be seen. But for now, we’re liking the change at both red carpet events and strolls on the town, where she’ll still mix fashion with her casual style. Her stint at Paris Fashion Week, wasn’t too bad either. Go Jess!
