Celebrity Beachwear For Everyday Girls

Summertime…and the livin’ is easy…if you’re a celeb, of course! In between making movies, heading to gala events, and throwing on designer clothes, they take vacations to St. Barths, the Carribbean, and every beach location in between! Not to mention hitting up the most luxurious summer locations at any moment for massages, getaways with husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, or simply to show off their stellar figures.
Well, you may not be a celeb on the beach, but you CAN feel like one, if you dress as they dress for some fun in the sun. Don’t forget, fashionista A-listers never forgo a moment to look their very best, even if they’re about to get sand between their toes.  Here’s what you can wear to look just like them.
Cover Up…With A Print
There’s of course the typical coverup on the beach.  The nice one in linen or cotton in solid white or black or a pretty pastel to go over a print bikini or a regular one-piece.  Blake Lively, Halle Berry and Sofia Vergara have all worn them.  But you really know a celeb’s on the beach when they decide to go above and beyond with a coverup that gets everybody looking—like the printed blue Camilla kaftan recently seen on a very pregnant Kate Hudson when she was putting her feet into the water.  You may have also the exotic print tunic on Blake Lively and the chiffon overlay on Beyonce.
If you look feel like adding some panache to your beachwear, throw on a patterned coverup over your bikini or bathing suit.  Just make sure it’s statement-making, not spider web-y and strange.
Diane von Furstenberg and Victoria’s Secret make some great ones, but I especially adore this Parker Beach Kimono in Blue Snake. $176 from celeb-inspired shop Singer22.

Wear A Skirt…In Bold Color
Did you see that picture of AnnaLynne McCord and that Wet Republic skirt…with little else? Yes, she did have a bikini top on her frame with a denim jacket thrown over, but the print skirt was so eye-catching it took over the outfit…in a good way.  If you want to wear a tiered skirt to the beach, even if its with your bikini and little else, you’ll sure make a statement in something as powerful as AnnaLynne’s poppy pattern.  I’ve also seen lavish skirts of the beachwear kind on Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Nicole Richie.
The best ones, of course, are colorful, sometimes tiered, and ultra-loose and flowy like this funky, multihued peacock print skirt from a new line called Onshore for $49,  which is inspired by the beach lifestyle of a Mediterranean free spirit.
Wear a Maxi…And Make It Loose
Celebs are all for wearing print maxi dresses and why not? They’re super comfortable, super easy to throw on and super casual—easy to wear with flip flops, under a cardi, or with a chunky necklace.  So it’s no surprise we often see A-listers in them—whether it’s Kim Kardashian’s stripes, AnnaLynne McCord’s animal print, or Jessica Simpson’s wild pattern all over.  But the fave of the bunch thus far is the hippie-ish one worn by Sandra Bullock.  She didn’t wear it to the beach, she wore it to the event, but she might as well have.  It looked so loose and comfortable on her, that she could easily throw it on for an impromptu trip to the shore. And that’s exactly what a maxi dress for the beach should be.
Embodying Sandra Bullock’s feminine power woman motif, I’m eyeing up this tie-dye racerback maxi dress from Michael Kors Villa Tie-Dye Racerback Maxi Dress, $200 at Macy’s.  It’s relaxed, but trendy and best of all, it drapes quietly over the figure.
No White After Labor Day…Until You’re At The Beach
Unlike some people, who wear it with a vengeance, I’m not a fan of white. Perhaps it’s because it’s more difficult for someone who’s not skinny to look good in it or perhaps its because it’s too showy and pure.  Or it could be that it looks strange in the winter, or at a night event.  For this reason, I personally believe that if you’re going to wear white you should do it on the beach.  I don’t know if I’m all for mixing textures like Ashley Tisdale has done in the past with the knits and the linens, but I am all for throwing on a lightweight white one-size tee or baggy pants when you’re heading to the shore.  Because it’s going to be so hot there, there’s no other color you’d rather be in.  The celebs would agree.
The most comfortable item to wear to the beach would have to be a pair of white lightweight baggy funnel pants over strappy gladiator sandals or flip flops.  Calvin Klein, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Ralph Lauren all make a pair, but my fave ones are the semi-sheer linen wide-leg pants from James Perse. Because they’re perfect for warm weather!
