With another holiday season behind us, it’s only natural for us fashion folks to look forward to the next big thing: the spring fashion season! I know it can be challenging with many of us living in areas that are stuck in a deep freeze, but it’s not too early to start curating your spring looks for when the time is right.
Spring 2026 Trends for Women Over 50
We’ve already touched on some of the biggest trends for the upcoming season, so now let’s start breaking down a few that can truly work for us on-the-go fashion gals. This is the perfect moment to think about how to translate runway trends into real life.
One trend I especially love this season is bold color mixing. Its a trend that women over 50 or any age can embrace. I’ve always been drawn to color blocking and creating strong visual interest, so seeing this trend take center stage for spring feels exciting. Finding fresh clothing options and unexpected color combinations is going to be a fun exercise—and one I’m genuinely looking forward to.

Bold Colored Tops And Sweaters
I’ve already leaned into bright colors for the season. I started investing in bold hues late last year in the November and December when I grabbed some cherry red sweaters (a big color for the season) and incorporated them into my everyday rotation. I began by pairing them with jeans and a statement shoe, then graduated to monochromatic looks—think red cigarette pants with red suede loafers.
If you want to try a fun red sweater to try color mixing, I found this oversized off-the-shoulder sweater that looks super chic, relaxed and comfortable.

And contrary to what you may believe, color mixing doesn’t have to be just bright colors. You can mix some pastels in for spring. If you want to ease into this trend, this merino cotton sweater in a beautiful baby blue is a great place to start. Pair it with another pastel—like cornflower yellow or powder pink—for a fresh, spring-forward take.

As the weather warms, you can swap sweaters for lighter tops. If you’re a fan of short sleeve sweaters, I suggest this Essential Antwerp Jojoba Short Sleeve Sweater from Anthropologie. The contrasting white trim on the tie collar add dimension and detail, making it perfect for pairing with bold-colored pants or skirts.

If you dabbled in the vest trend for the fall season, rest assured it’s still highly visible for spring. A vest is a modern way to embrace bold color mixing. I found this light yellow, structured option that is perfect for spring. You can layer it over a colored button front or long sleeve top or wear it with bare arms paired with a contrasting color pair of tailored pants; creating a modern take on the power suit.

Bold Colored Pants, Skirts And Dresses
I love a bold pair of pants, and adding eye-popping colored bottoms is one of the things I’m most excited about for spring. One of my staples for the fall and winter has been a pair of wide leg, flowy satin pants. They’re as comfortable as pajamas, but they look so chic and effortless.
I found these wide leg satin pants in a bright orange and beautiful teal that I would love to add to my closet. These colors are confident and striking—and yes, you will stand out in the best way.

Jeans are always going to be a closet staple and there are so many cool styles to try for the spring. Adding a pop of color to your jean assortment is also a way to stay on-trend for the season. These Bella Stretch Wide Leg jeans in Wine Tasting Red have a subtle but rich shade that almost serves as a neutral and can be paired with one of your favorite spring colors.

If you can’t wait to wear your spring skirts, this beautiful jacquard print midi skirt in the Chai Tea color screams spring sunshine. It would look amazing paired with a bright green, rich blue or cherry red top.

For something soft, flowy and more whimsical, try this pleated chiffon skirt in dusty peach pink. Pairing this with other pastels or a bright red or yellow would be an expert way to incorporate the skirt into the bold color mixing trend.
Bold Color Mixing: Styling Tips
1. Keep shoes and accessories fun as well! Don’t keep this trend confined to above the ankles. Shoes are also fair game. A few honorable mentions are these electric pink Adidas sneakers, these gorgeous teal suede mules and these mismatch leather lug loafers (my absolute favorite)!
2. The rules, as you know, don’t matter! When it comes to spring color mixing, the weirder, the better. If you think two or three colors won’t work together, try them anyway. I bet you’ll get lots of compliments for your bold choices from your fellow fashion lovers.
3. Know your personal colors. If yellow washes you out or red enhances a feature in your skin tone you don’t love; still steer clear of them. Don’t compromise your own personal fashion rules for a trend. Take the colors you feel your best in, and mix them boldly—on your own terms—to embrace this fun spring trend.
