Perhaps that’s because instead of donating some paltry .02 per product they raised the bar, and chose to donate 100 percent of sales from over 7.1 million Viva Glam lip products to the fund for the past 13 years. Aside from keeping women beautiful and runway models made up, M.A.C
Cosmetics’ commitment to charity has taken the brand to a whole new
level. This fall marks a momentous achievement for the M.A.C AIDS Fund,
having raised over $100 million to help fight HIV and AIDS globally.
“The
only thing more exciting about reaching this milestone is the prospect
of setting and reaching our next fundraising goal and continuing our
grant-making and partnerships around the world,” said M.A.C AIDS Fund
executive director Nancy Mahon.
For the past 13 years, M.A.C has
donated 100 percent of sales from over 7.1 million Viva Glam lip
products to the fund. A slew of 16 celebrities have done their part to
drive sales and promote the cause, each one connected to a different
shade of lipstick. Ru Paul was the inaugural spokesperson; since then,
K.D. Lang, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Shirley Manson, Lil’ Kim, Missy
Elliott, Boy George, Linda Evangelista, Chloë Sevigny, Christina
Aguilera, Pamela Anderson, Debbie Harry, and Lisa Marie Presley have
followed suit. Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson was recently named the next Viva
Glam spokeswoman. “The celebrities who have joined us over the years
embody the spirit of M.A.C and the M.A.C AIDS Fund–every race, every
sex, every age,” commented M.A.C AIDS Fund Chairman and M.A.C president
John Demsey.
Grammy Award-winning artist Eve and burlesque
actress Dita Von Teese, the current faces of the M.A.C AIDS Fund, will
join Demsey on November 15 at the M.A.C store on Columbus Avenue in
Manhattan to celebrate the milestone moment. But the Fund’s work is by
no means near completion. As World Aids Day on December 1 approaches,
the Viva Glam spokeswomen will unveil new information about the disease
and issue a call for action and spread the need for money, education,
and awareness.
In other words, think sexy red lips with a purpose.
