How To Get This Ashley Greene Black Lace Party Look for Less

Actress and model Ashley Greene wore sheer black lace pants with an oversized shirt over a plunging v-neck black lace top to the recent screening of Bombshell. Do I think women over 40 should wear this look? Yes, but not exactly in the same manner as the stunning 32 year-old. Most women over 40 would prefer to avoid this much of a plunging neckline and sheer pants. However I love the contrast of her crisp white menswear shirt with the soft textured black lace. This is a perfect cocktail, holiday party or New Year’s Eve outfit and we want to steal her style (with a few modifications). Here’s how you can get this Ashley Greene black lace party look for less.

The Ashley Greene Black Lace Pants

Ashley’s pants are quit similar to Valentino’s wide leg lace pants which were $2390, now on sale for $1195. But who would spend that much on an evening look that you may only wear a few times? Even on the runway, I just don’t like the look of black panties or short shorts lined sheer lace pants. It’s too choppy. Even on perfect models like Ashley, I think lace pants look best when they are totally lined in fabric. That’s why I recommend these Gibson x Glam Fancy Ashley Holiday Fancy Pants for only $74. They are completely lined and have an easy going trouser style with pockets. These pants come in regular and petites sizes, too. So you won’t have to worry about hemming lace pants, which is not impossible, but it can be tricky.

Ashley Greene Black Lace Party Look Styling Tips

1. Mix cocktail with casual.

The reason I adore this look on Ashley Greene is because it mixes cocktail elements (the black lace and blingy earrings) with a casual white menswear style shirt. Fashion works when opposites are pulled together. And a look like this is perfect for when you don’t know how dressy or casual the event may be. You can go from black tie to a a more casual event with this combination.

2. Steal celebrity style with modifications.

If you see a look on a celebrity you like, but think you cannot wear it, think again! In the case of Ashley Greene’s outfit, I loved everything except for the plunging neckline and the sheerness of her pants. So I revamped her look a bit and found similar pieces at lower prices. You can do this too!

3. Shop for black and white fabrics for less.

You can get away with wearing low priced fashion in black and white fabrics. This is because you can’t really see how well the garment is topstitched when the same colored thread is used on black or white. When it comes to black fabrics, avoid shiny looking polyesters and for white make sure the fabric is not too thin or flimsy. That way your looks for less will fool everyone!

4. You can hem lace!

This amazed me, but (my favorite) seamstresses at Nordstrom can take the scalloped lace edge of pants or a skirt and magically hem to a shorter length. But to avoid paying for alterations on hemming, try a petite size to get a shorter length if necessary. However, the rise is usually shorter too, so you may have to go up a size to get the right fit. And when it comes to lower priced pieces, you have to get the proper fit. To get it right I recommend alterations at Nordstrom.

Would you wear this Ashley Greene black lace look for less to your next party?
