How To Rock The Après-Ski Look (Even If You Are Not Skiing)

There’s something about the glamour of a ski resort in the Alps, in the Rockies, in the Dolomites or even further abroad. The beautiful scenery, cozy lodge, fabulous fur-trimmed parkas and boots, luxe knits, and adorable hats make for iconic looks that appeal even if you live no where near the mountains. Here’s how you can get the après-ski look even if you are not skiing.

How To Get The Après-Ski Look

Need some film inspiration? Plenty of James Bond movies feature glamorous ski scenes, and weren’t the ski outfits in House of Gucci to die for? If you want to go old Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn looked fabulous skiing in the French Alps in Charade. Or perhaps some more modern inspiration like Miu Miu’s Fall Winter 2021 collection is more to your taste.

We love the après-ski chic style but of course, we don’t necessarily live the lifestyle 24/7 (or ever). Here’s how to get a soupçon of après-ski style without hitting the slopes…

Fur-Trimmed Hoods And Hats

Nothing says après-ski like a parka with (faux) fur framing your face. While this look is available at every price point, we’re always fans of inexpensive but still luxe options like this Nine West Sherpa coat from Kohls with a faux-fur hood. Or go all out with a faux-fur hat, like this one from La Carrie via Amazon

Boots With The Fur

If a fur-trimmed parka or hood is good, pairing it with fur-trimmed boots might be even better. While you could go with fully fur-trimmed moon boot styles (and we’re never mad at that), these Zodiac Gemma-Fur boots with a small heel are just as chic and even more versatile, since they would work everything from ski-inspired looks to denim.

Après-Ski Nordic Patterns

Nothing says relaxing in a ski lodge post-run like a chunky knit with a Nordic-inspired pattern. And no does a quality option at a better price point than LL Bean – we’d throw this Fair Isle-inspired sweater over virtually anything for a chic winter look. If you prefer the cardigan or “coatigan” look, this Lucky Brand style is a good choice.

Tech Fabrics

For a more modern take on the après-ski style, there are all kinds of technical jackets, shirts, and pants designed to keep you warm in chilly weather. A sleek quarter-zip always looks flattering, especially in black or a rich navy like this tech top by UnderArmour. Just add black skinny pants and you’ll look sleek, chic, and ready for adventure (or just on a mission to get things done).

Cable Knits

A cozy cable-knit turtleneck or crewneck sweater is a classic après-ski look and it always looks great worn over a pair of skinny pants (or ski pants if you actually did just hit the slopes). Try something like this Madewell cable-knit sweater. It takes a traditional style and adds an oversize high neck to keep things modern.

Après-Ski Statement Gloves

While sleek, tech-friendly gloves certainly have their place, sometimes huge fluffy gloves or mittens just add something to an outfit. Get a fingerless pair if you still want to be able to use your phone, like these faux fur ones by Jocelyn from Revolve

Matching Sets

We don’t mean your standard tracksuit, but rather a comfortable and cozy outfit that makes it easy to look put together after a day on the slopes or just while you are running around town on a cold winter day. Keep it sleek with something like this GapFit powder jacket and leggings ensemble in a rich purple burgundy camo that just looks expensive (even if it isn’t).
