Nicholas K’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection is all about the wonders of the exploring the Arctic. The region, one of the furthest from the warm rays of the sun, has one of the most unforgiving landscapes. This combined with the efforts of western explorers to chart out the icy terrain was used as inspiration for the fall/winter line.
The white ice-plateaus, the marbled blue, grey and white glaciers, the deep blue Arctic Ocean covered in ice caps, and the awe inspiring show of color that stretches across the landscape in the form of the aurora borealis all are represented throughout this collection.
These tones that are representative of the Arctic’s harsh landscape as well as the protective and warm garments worn by explorers and Inuits are flaunted in wools and cottons. Various prints that utilize the shapes, shades and hues of this chilling realm can be visualized throughout. As would be in the Arctic, layering of clothing items is a vital part of the collection. In an effort to add a unique look to the polar basics of both explorers and the native peoples of the region, comes the use of knitted raccoon hair. Light flowing knits, thick plush sweaters, wool blends, hued plaids and angular cuts are also incorporated within the Nicholas K collection.
